Surfing around I ran into this page here. Some amazing guy has enhanched and recoded much of Ultima III for the c64.
So much so, he compressed the original two disks into one disk. Apparently the code was really bad, they left most of the Apple II stuff un optimised, the text notes that the graphics were internally in Apple II format in RAM and were converted on the fly each time the tile was blitted to the screen.. Yikes. No wonder it was super slow.
Anyway, this version plays so much sweeter.
I also like the removal of the forced Sosaria world map save!
I started playing the 7th Link last night to get a feel for it, to see if this is the game I'd like to blog next.
It feels big, and from some of the meager info I can find online, I don't really know if I want to spend the '200 hours'! required to play the game. Thats a lot of hours and I'm sporadic at best to playing.
My copy of dungeons and desktops came today!
Obviously I havn't read into it much yet but
First quick impressions;
- Nice size / weight hardback
- Pictures all b&w (which we knew)
- Unfortunately all pictures are _very dark_ in printing... :(
more to come later
Wow, sad day for gamers. Gargy Gygax passed away.

He was Dungeons and Dragons daddy and spawned such classics as Tomb of Horrors and Expedition to the Barrier Peaks and of course Temple of Elemental Evil...
Here is a link to GameSpy's 30th anniversary ad&d retrospective including interviews with Gygax and lots of history.
