Just got some sales figures today. For (hopefully) obvious reasons I won't go into numbers here, but suffice it to say that we're all very pleased with how well Vintage Games has sold! Of course, there are still copies left, so get'em while you can!
Just to add a bit more... We only have sales figures for the first three months after the book's release, but, depending upon how the momentum was/is maintained, it would be solidly in the "strong seller" category for this type of book. So, by the time the book is one year old in late March 2010, it should have sold more than many books of the type were able to sell in their lifetimes. In other words, we probably get to live another day in this business because we have a strong selling book to back us up. This is particularly gratifying because it's through a publisher of "how to" books and this was really their first attempt at branching out from that. Certainly their marketing was not targeted outside the "how to" audience.
Just as a point of perspective, I think Kent's "Ultimate History..." book from 2001 has sold something like 16,000+ copies over its lifetime, which makes it far and away the best seller in the category. We'll be nowhere near that, though, unless some miracle happened. Solid sellers sell something like 2,000 copies and up...
Interestingly, since "Wii Fitness for Dummies" will be shelved with the other fitness books, that's probably considered a different class entirely in all ways, even though it's about videogames.
