I spent so many hours playing ELITE from 1982 to 1984, I collected a list of BUY/SOLD items, profit and loss, expenses/fuel, Packages to deliver etc... I kept a record of ALL the flights I made (when, where to/from ) types of goods cheap.... I listed them in a record book ( I still have ) To say Elite, was the best, would be wrong. It managed to fit a universe, with REAL named planets, lots of types of space ships, so much FREE PLAY, that it set a benchmark for the the future of gaming. YES at the time it was released, It was the best. by far ! This all fitted into a floppy disk (800kb) It had a cool intro film, a great book that came with it, telling of the story so far.. having a ship left in a will, from some uncle? I will always tell people about Elite, and how it began a series of games leading to so much that we have today. I feel So old now. I was born in 1970, my first computer was a Dragon 32K in 1982. YES 32K not 32mb. I keep reminding my kids (all six of them), but 32K ment that if you sat down and copied the prgorams from a book (as I did) you sometime ran out of memory! And tell them that it took NINE minutes to load GALAXIANS and they think I have lost my MIND! ( thats if the sound tape worked!). Well at least we can play the old games in seconds now, thanks to the emulators and free downloads. I carry thounsands of old games and emulators with me on my 8Gb Pendrive. Not to play them..NO! .. Just because I can.
