Beeslife is making available the new Moon Patrol take-off, Space Patrol, for the Mattel Intellivision, along with an updated version of the Tetris take-off, 4-Tris. I've been anticipating the release of Space Patrol for some time, so this is welcome news.
A copy and paste from the release:

It all started with Baseball, which is considered to be one of the best titles ever made for the Intellivision. After Mattel Electronics shut down, INTV continued producing great games like Body Slam with beautiful box artwork. Continuing in this great tradition, Left Turn Only (LTO) has produced Space Patrol.
The incredible box artwork hints at what's to come. As you plug in the cartridge and play it the first time, you'll experience the rush of playing Intellivision for the first time, again. This is SPACE PATROL!
We spared no expense by obtaining only best quality materials. The box feels just like the boxes Mattel produced in the 80s, with a solid cart retaining system. Each box includes a serial number (on a holographic security label) to ensure authenticity. Also included are high quality color overlays and a complete color manual.
LTO proudly announces Space Patrol, available for pre-ordering today. Each package includes cartridge, box, manual and overlays. As a bonus, LTO is offering its own updated version of 4-Tris, available in limited quantities to those who purchase Space Patrol
Space Patrol is scheduled to ship no later than the end of January.
4-Tris will ship by the end of February.
Place your order early at http://www.beeslife.com/intvgames/spacepatrol/spacepatrol.php
Thank you,
The LTO team

Space Patrol Update
From Joe Zbiciak:
"I just wanted to send a short note on Space Patrol, and you're free to put this up with your Space Patrol post if you like. I noticed a couple commenters mentioned that Moon Patrol was too hard. They may be pleasantly surprised by Space Patrol. With its 8 courses (as compared to
2 in Moon Patrol), David and I were able to provide a much wider range of difficulty, including courses that are somewhat easier and somewhat harder than the arcade courses.
Also, the game has a "continue" feature that lets you practice tough parts, though it does reset your score when you continue. Space Patrol offers 2 continues per game, each with 2 tanks. Since your score resets when you continue, it also will report your peak and final scores separately at the very end, in the fine tradition of Astrosmash. :-)"
Sounds even better!

Moon Patrol is one of the few games I got good at in the arcade. There are only two courses in the game - beginner and champion (the game just keeps repeating the champion course when you complete it).
I was able to complete the beginner course and then get around half way through the champion course on 1 credit. Great game with great music and it was the first ROM I downloaded when I discovered MAME.

It's too bad it doesn't ship until January. 4-Tris doesn't ship until February. They do have a ROM demo of Space Patrol available for use in emulators or Intellicarts...

Six Audio Channels!
By the way, they forgot to mention that the game supports the three extra audio channels of the Enhanced Computer System (for an amazing total of six) for those who own one along with their Intellivision. I'm happy to say that I do and am looking forward to the game even more. After I mentioned that, they updated the game's description... ;-)

Hard Patrol
I always enjoyed it just like Matt and on many of the same platforms, but like Stu, have found it to be rather hard. This "inspired by" game on the Intellivision looks tremendous - superficially as good as anything from that era.

Moon patrol was so cool, but I was so hopeless at it :)

Moon Patrol
Moon Patrol was always one of my favorite jumping games. Original concept, original gameplay...Surprised it wasn't cloned/updated more than it was. I can still hear the theme music.
Not sure what my favorite version is. I played it on the Apple II, C-64, MAME, and of course whenever possible at the arcade.
This is the sort of game that could really benefit from the XLA treatment, with more realistic movement, vehicle/crash dynamics, etc.
