The success of the Asus EEE-pc has driven hardware developers to come up with their own alternatives to the lean and mean Asus portable. Gecube introduced a new and cheap Linux-tablet pc that might be a contender for the EEE-Pc.
The GeCube Genie Tablet runs Linux, has a detachable Spectrum-style rubber keyboard. The hardware is nothing to write home about, some non-specified integrated intel cpu running at 300Mhz, just 256Mb of ram and 2Gb of harddrive space. The unit boasts a 800x480 resolution screen but I am not clear about it's size. It'll set you back about $229. Gecube is also offering a larger version housed inside a regular laptop-type casing, with a VIA C7 cpu, 512Mb or ram. This device should be capable of running Windows XP and is slightly more expensive at around $279.
