G A S G: Some great & not so great Amiga games I've come across whilst testing out various emulators, read more about my initial findings and take a look at some of the screenshots.
Amiga Amnios
A great shmup reminding me a little of Xenos II graphics-wise and Omega Race gameplay wise. The sound is a bit repetitive but the graphics are lush, gameplay is smooth and it is DIFFICULT!
Publisher: Psygnosis, 1991
Developer: Flying Chicken
Compatible with: Amiga 500 (OCS) & playable on WinUAE
Score: 5/5
Amiga Armalyte
A nice sideway shooter, can also be found on the C64 and it is a great game on there as well. Incredibly difficult at first. You can only get further by remembering patterns and countless restarts.
Publisher: Thalamus, 1991
Developer: Arc Development
Compatible with: Amiga 500 (OCS) & playable on WinUAE
Score: 3/5 it's just a little too difficult for my taste, the c64 version is actually more playable.
Amiga Atomic Robokit
Again a nice sideway shooter, not as smooth as the arcade version - which is actually an 8 bit game running on 2 z80's. I had expected the Amiga version to actually be a little better. Music is decent although the arcade version sounds better. Also out on many older consoles.
Publisher: Activision, 1990
Developer: Software Studios
Compatible with: Amiga 500 (OCS) & playable on WinUAE
Score: 4/5
Amiga Bad Company
The graphics are allright, the scaling is good but this is a major Space Harrier rip-off where your avatar doesn't even fly. Gameplay is tame. But it is fun checking out a game that resembles Space Harrier that much - how on earth did they get away with marketing this?
Publisher: Logotron, 1990
Developer: Vectordean
Compatible with: Amiga 500 (OCS) & playable on WinUAE
Score: 2/5
What strikes me as amazing is the fact that Vectordean actually was responsibe for James Pond platformer games that were quite popular on the Amiga. Perhaps Logotron was responsible for this 'rip-off'? No-way, it seems that Logotron was responsible for Star Goose, one of my old time PC/Amiga favourites of the day. Let's check it out.
Amiga Stargoose
Stargoose, it looks better than the PC version I played on an old XT 8088 with EGA/VGA graphics. Still liking it. It's old school.
Publisher: Logotron, 1988
Developer: ????
Compatible with: Amiga 500 (OCS) & playable on WinUAE
Score: 5/5
