A colleague of my wife Elise is going to give me a 'Vic branded' home computer. I am not sure which Vic it will be but I am betting it is a Vic-20. I am actually quite exited. Does anybody know of some good Vic-20 demos?
Ha, yeah I remember that Pac Man game too. I'm wanting to say my dad had some games on tape such as Forbidden Forest, but I could be getting that confused with the later C-64 stuff. I seem to recall a Gorf game as well. I also remember a public domain game about pizza delivery that was basically an educational game to teach how to use graphs. I never tried to program until much later.
The VIC 20 was my first computer too. I learned BASIC on it, though the cassette recorder would wipe out my work sometimes. Ahh, the good/bad old days.
My first computer was a Vic, so of course I have a special place for it in my heart. I don't think we ever got drives for it, though. I think we just used cartridges until we got the C-64. I remember how much I loved Jupiter Lander.
It was my first computer too! (prior to that I only had my parent's Pong system and an Atari 2600 VCS) I only had a few game cartridges for it (the decent Pac-Man knockoff with the Commodore symbol was all that I remember at the moment), so every time I entered a program and turned the computer off, it was gone! I recall getting the computer sometime when I was in fifth grade and I think we sold it when I was in sixth grade. I then got a C-64 that I still have!

Thanks for the info! It is indeed a Vic 20 with 1540 (!!! cool) diskdrive a 1541 diskdrive (whoohoo now I have 3!), a 16Kb ram expansion, a c2n tapedeck, even joysticks. All in mint-condition. Wow. I am definitely going to try to track down some cartridges, disks and tapes. Bill you know of some sort of flash cartridge thing like for the c64 but then for the Vic?
I don't think a flash cartridge thing like the MMC64, no, but as far as I know the popular transfer cables for both the serial and cassette ports should work just fine. I haven't tested mine on anything other than a C-64 and C-128D, but I've been meaning to try the cassette solution on one of my PETs.

My collection is modest for the VIC 20 compared to other platforms I have from Commodore, but I always try to snatch up boxed software for it when I can.
