I'm just checking up on folks. Seems awful quiet around here lately. Anyone have interesting projects going on? I went to see V on Sat. Good movie. I also read the graphic novel, which was different but also good.

I'm leaving Wed for a conference that'll last until Sat--I'll be in Chicago.

Do you mean "V" with Marc

Do you mean "V" with Marc Singer? I saw that when it was originally broadcast as an NBC mini-series in the early 80's, along with the sequel and television series. I have the paperback book which is pretty much verbatim from the first mini-series.

I've been busy as all heck and still have not gotten my book section out, which I've been working on as much as possible for the past several days. Hopefully tonight and then I can zip up the unused photos to you.

As soon as we can get some look and feel stuff working, I'd like to start to plan timelines around articles and our big re-launch. Prior to that we should also decide what partnerships and advertising we want to bring over to the new site, but that's a discussion for a different day.

V for Vendetta

Oops! No, I'm familiar with the old tv series, but I was talking about V for Vendetta.

All I need is some specs

All I need is some specs (pixelxpixel) so I can create some pixellated art for the new site.

Neat

Awesome, Mark. As I mentioned earlier, I'll be gone most of this week, and will probably be deluged with catch-up work when I get back. Still, if nothing else, I have the whole summer off (I opted for the 12-month salary plan). Our last day of classes here at SCSU is May 3rd. I'll have some grading to do then, but everything has to be finished by May 18th.

I keep thinking that if we want a fixed deadline to have this site up and running with new articles (the "Official Release of NEO"), it ought to be June 1st. Hopefully, we can have the bulk of the site ready well before then, but I'm curious what everyone thinks. Is June 1st just too far in future? Did we want to push for an earlier deadline? I'm not sure how anyone else feels about this, so please, sound off.

June 1st sounds

June 1st sounds reasonable... The toughest thing will be getting the tech on this site ready-- we seem to be going for a more minimalist/retro look for NEO, which makes for faster loading times...

June 1st is reasonable - LAYOUT colours ?

Yes, do we agree on the sort of layout like Mr Barton proposed in the other thread?

If so what's the colour scheme we like? Minimalist look, white background on the articles with colored squares / buttons with a little shadow underneath for the navigation? It needs to totally stay away from the Blog look that we have got going on right here....

Some sites that I like:
http://www.harcorutgers.nl/
Wow! This is what I was sort of thinking about doing with my little icons!
Combined with a tabbed/bar like the site below.

http://www.game-oldies.com/
I nice banner atop. Navigation tabs/bar underneath, The navigation bar/tabs of this site is something I would like to see in in a similar fashion on our site aswell. It could have been a nice clean site if you skip the ads pasted below. The site allows you to play many a retrogame online through java btw. Nice over-use of pixel art btw. Overuse of partner information and commercial information. Again it's the top part of the page I like.

I like the clean look, hate the busy background. Like the use of pixel art. Navigation is non existent in this site. I like the use of colored squares around the side.

Another clean looking site, happens to be my Sister's website. Click on 'ga verder - klik hier' to explore the site. The navigation is not what I would like, but the clean look is nice in my opinion.

A look like these is something I like very much. A lot of them happen to be a friends of my sisters' - all art-people btw. Perhaps a bit too European or art-like.

Hehe, my sister's inlaws - no kidding....
Please check them out and let me know what direction we like. Hey I am Dutch so I tend to be very negotiative (polder-model) instead of saying let's go for THIS.... If you ask me, which is a little un-Dutch like, the Dutch like to endlessly discuss stuff and then come to a mutual agreement hours later -> let's go for something very much like the above to two sites I mentioned.

We can say June 1st for now,

We can say June 1st for now, but it's hard to pin down a date until the base Website is ready. Certainly it will be helpful if we have stuff generally ready to go article-wise as soon as possible, but there's still much to be done on here first. We'll have to develop a very detailed progress plan with milestones, I think. Perhaps in a few days we can start to work that out.
