Hi, everyone. I hope you enjoy my first-ever effort to make a video! Matt Chat #1: Pool of Radiance. Please let me know what you think and feel free to give me tips or suggestions for future episodes. Just keep in mind that this is my first attempt at this, so be gentle. :)
Except for the crazy eyes in the beginning (;-)) and a bit too quiet audio, I thought it was superb!

I didn't notice the "crazy eyes," and the audio was fine on my end. Matt has described himself in "dorkish" terms so much (Weird Al & Earnest P. Worrell???) that I was surprised at how "cool" he actually comes across "live."
Possibly the only distraction is the reflection of his computer monitor in his glasses. The narration, on the other hand, was superb. Matt has a very good speaking voice, being animated and friendly (which probably comes pretty easy for an instructor).
As for the review, Pool of Radiance actually seemed surprisingly complex; primitive graphics and audio aside, the "meat" of the game seemed at least as advanced as stuff we're playing today!

Definition of "crazy eyes": Matt opening his eyes real wide several times in the beginning of the video. Really, though, just having some fun with you... I loved it! (though the audio was too quiet on my end, but it could just be the systems I was watching it on)

Absolutely, Rob. The gameplay IS just as complex and sophisticated as anything on the market. The reason? PARTY mechanics!!! Whereas most games nowadays only let you create and control one character, POR and games like it gave you many characters. You had to think about how the party would work together, anticipating every aspect of team management (heals, tanks, dps, cc, mitigation, etc.) In my opinion, this was an order of magnitude more sophisticated than games like Diablo, which, let's face it, you'd have to be pretty stupid not to be able to finish. A game like POR, on the other hand--damn, you really have to put some thought into it.
As far as "crazy eyes" are concerned, I have no idea. I wasn't trying to put on a show or anything; just being myself. Mwahahahaha....:)
No "dork" but D'Artagnan! The musketeer of vintage games!
Seriously, can you make anything wrong or shoddy at all? ;-)
take care,

Good effort!
the only problem I had was that your voice was not loud enough (Game music was though).
I had to move my volume to the max, and still had to have my ear close to the PC speaker inorder to hear your voice.

Hmm...It sounds fine on my end, but I guess I'll try to raise the volume level next go round. Thanks for all the kind comments!
To Do for Next Matt Chat:
1. Raise volume level
2. Wear contacts !
Excellent video. Good and very easy to listen to narration. You've got a great speaking voice Matt. Actually the first time I saw you move. Keep'm coming I say!

Oldschool games, some people just don't "get it"...
It took me pretty much all day to get it figured out, but I finally figured out how to get a decent audio/visual capture of another great oldie from the 1990s. My plan is to have it ready by next weekend.
