Christina Unboxes an Ubisoft Party Pack

Christina Loguidice unboxes a free www.houseparty.com Ubisoft package, entitled "Fun, Fit & Guilt-Free House Party". This package is sponsored by Ubisoft's Your Shape, JELL-O, and House Party. This follows Bill Loguidice's earlier unboxing of the Windows 7 Ultimate party pack. The two most interesting items (assuming you don't REALLY love JELL-O mousse) are the Your Shape bundle and the Just Dance game, both for the Nintendo Wii. Your Shape is a direct upgrade to My Fitness Coach, sort of like Wii Fit Plus is the direct upgrade to Wii Fit. Of course My Fitness Coach is itself a follow up to the earlier Yourself Fitness. "Celebrity" branding aside, where Your Shape trumps them all is with the addition of the camera peripheral (it's also available on PC), though of course lighting conditions and other factors will affect tracking. Finally, Just Dance is an original game for up to four players to dance either for fun or as a workout, with no need for a dance mat.

Serious party

Yes, these are actually meant for parties with friends and family. All you have to do is apply. Anyone can. Whether you get accepted or not is a different story.

From what I've seen/read of these Wii exercise games, it seems that "Your Shape" will give you a much more serious workout than what it seems the other Wii Fit-type games will give you. From what it seems, the "Your Shape" program is not tied to the Wii Fit board or Wii controllers, meaning it has great potential for porting to other platforms.

I'm not saying I'm an authority on these programs or anything ;-) , but I disagree about the "serious workout" part. Most, particularly the top titles, are very, very effective workout-wise. We have not had a chance to try "Your Shape", but as stated, it's an evolution of two earlier programs and contains hundreds of exercises. The whole series is meant to be used with just about anything you have around the house from an exercise equipment standpoint. "Your Shape" is the first in the series to actually be able to provide some feedback about what you're doing via the included camera. That obviously changes it from a computerized workout guide and tracker to something more interactive. With that said, as is often the case with these things, I've heard mixed results about how well the camera actually works.

And yes, this absolutely can be made for ANY platform because all it requires is the camera. The earlier games - with nothing but the software - were available on the PS2, Xbox, etc. "Your Shape" is available for the Wii and PC right now. Oddly enough, the PC version requires you to use its camera, not your Webcam.

Unfortunately, Bill, "Your Shape" was released as the book was wrapping production (it comes out in February so we had to finish it by the end of November), so it is not covered in "Wii Fitness for Dummies". "Wii Fitness for Dummies" has three main sections: "Wii Fit Plus", "EA Sports Active: Personal Trainer", and "Jillian Michaels Fitness Ultimatum 2010", and each is covered in great detail. "Your Shape" is only mentioned in passing in one of the Part of Tens at the back of the book. If we do a follow-up, "More Wii Fitness for Dummies" ever, "Your Shape" would certainly be a good candidate, as would "The Biggest Loser".

Your shape for Wii

Bill and Christina,

I hope your new book will cover a lot on the "Your Shape". I just bought it for the holidays and think this is a great product. I signed up for House Party but didn't own a Wii yet. Just bought it and my life has changed. Never used a console before. Am loving the Wii Fit Plus, Balance Board, and Water Sports games. Searching AmaZon.com for Wii brought me to your page. Not a lot of books on this subject that are current. Please put more info into your book about "Your Shape". Checked out Jillian but thought it was more for experts. Tried "Biggest Loser" but I don't like the idea that they don't wait for you to take your strap off, etc before continuing, so I am always playing "catch up" :(

Look forward to using Your Shape because it doesn't require the Wiimote.

Please reply to me directly and I will be happy to write a review for you or help contribute.

-- and, yes, I own a Mac and my name is Bill, too. :)

Amazingly, yes

You got this for free right? Excellent!

Yeah, free. This houseparty.com place does it regularly, but mostly with food-stuff. It's been awesome that they did it with Windows 7 Ultimate and now this Ubisoft package. I hope there are more computer and videogame things coming down the pipeline (though I do apply for the food stuff on occasion too).
