Announcing: Match 3 Invaders, a New Game by Matt Barton

Match 3 Invaders: Oh, hellz yeah!Match 3 Invaders: Oh, hellz yeah! Here it is Space Aces, my latest game: Match 3 Invaders. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to combine the pulse-pounding, sweaty-palms excitement of the classic Space Invaders arcade game with the relaxing strategy games known as "Match 3?" Now you have the chance to find out! Can you concentrate on lining up color matches while simultaneously dodging enemy fire? Can you endure the excruciating time limit as the aliens descend lower and lower upon your position? Most importantly of all: Can you rack up enough points to enter you name on the hallowed High Score Table?

It's Match 3 Invaders by Matt Barton. Now get in there and start matchin' and poppin' like you mean it!

Special thanks to: Triphamer, clok1966, Salty Pretzels, Eigen, Peter Horvath, Nathaniel Tolbert, and everyone else who beta tested and offered advice.

I know the game is not

I know the game is not complicated but I was sorta stumped when i was playing it. I was swaping colkors and expecting to to work like most color match games where 2 blues and i turn the 3rd blue they just blow up.. so the second shot was strange.. but then it dawned on me.. a "good" player could snake some shots in and effectivly do um all in one shot.. Once again, simple idea using older games in a NEW interesting way. And more importantly FUN way. WHrn i first played it i was (honesty can be harsh) kinda bored. Keep in mind im not a bejewled or Luxor or ????? player so my interet was low. And my first look it seems way to easy.

again a way to quick look leaves the wrong impression.. just a few levels in the game changes into a challange and a few more, a real challange.. The one flaw with using stuff people instanlty recognise is us fools who automaticly "know" its the same old thing (when its not).

You have achived a simple playstyle that ramps nicely, has a twist, and is fun.. I hope other dont do as I sorta did.. see SPACE INVADERS and dismiss it.. it much more. I know it sounds all suck up, but I really do think you have a great talent for mixing games... maing two ideas i would never mix work , and work well.. if you keep this up ... you may just hit on that next "big thing" ... i mean angry birds was done a MILLION times before.. but for some reason it 'wokred" best this last time.. and you are NOT COPYING.. but creating new games..

Matt, Unity is giving out free Android & iOS Licenses till April 8. So you may want to go to the unity store and grab them.

https://store.unity3d.com/index.html

Just select the Free version of unity and the Android and iOS under them will be available....go thru the checkout process and they'll email you your free key.

Thanks a lot, guys. I went

Thanks a lot, guys. I went ahead and picked them up, too. I have no idea how to get something like this on iPhone or Android, though. How would the controls work? How do you get it in the apps store or whatever Android has? I'm pretty much clueless.

Edit: Did some quick research about the iOS version. You need to be working on a Mac first off. Not a big deal since I have one from SCSU. I'm guessing it's a bit more complicated than just dragging the project folder onto it and compiling it with the Mac version of Unity, but perhaps it really is that simple.

Also will need a developer's membership from Apple, and that's $99 per year. Guess that's not too bad, but I have no clue what kind of money I could expect to make. Can I really expect 99 people to buy it even at 99 cents? I'd probably be lucky if a dozen people bought it. I have an iPhone 4 but no iPad.

Android development looks pretty confusing. As far as I can tell, you pay $25 to register on the android marketplace. Unfortunately, what I read claims that the profits you make are only 25% of Apple's. Hardly seems worth bothering with! Interestingly, there seems to be lots of alternatives to the marketplace. My wife has an Android phone, so I might be able to talk her into letting me test it out.

Anybody got experience with any of this? Like to hear how you did it and whether you think this game could be a fit on the app store or marketplace.

You only have to pay

You only have to pay Apple/Google to put the app on the store. If you just want to try it out on your own phone all the tools to do that are free.

You can load Android apps

You can load Android apps from a webpage (here even) if you want.. As for if its worht it..? no idea at all.. Dream big, or why dream at all :)

as for market share(app wise).. android had less then 2% market share 2-3 years ago, now its 25%... the android app market is expected to match apples in a few years (and thats with dismal tablet sales, android sells way more phones total then apple does worldwide). Apples closed door polcies has hindered its adoption rate everywhre but the US.

At least having the licenses,

At least having the licenses, you can start to play around with supporting android and iOS and learning how to put an app on one of those devices. It's not immediately important that you sell something. Later, when you feel you got a app that you feel you can sell and make a profit off of, then go ahead and spend the cash to get it on one of the appstores.

It's all about learning....for now.

High Score = 5684. I RULE OVER YOU PITIFUL CREATURES.

I am the greatest specimen of humanity. I am far in advance of your feeble skills. You are all mere simpletons before my presence.

Of course, you all knew that already. But in case you didn't know it, I decided to demonstrate my superiority by annihilating the previous high score on "Match 3 Invaders" with my own unconquerable high score of: 5684!

Of course, such a score would be impossible to attain, much less beat, by anyone else. Only I, your overlord, possesses the mighty skills needed to perform such superhuman feats. I pity the poor fool who even tries to beat me, although it would amuse me greatly to see you fail.

You have my permission to bow before me now.
