Enjoyed this one

Have to tell you Matt, I'm really looking forward to the time when your gaming documentary sees the light of day. I sure hope Bill hasn't "given up"--though I can relate to the discouragement that comes when a project stays under-wraps or seems static for too long.

As for a Matt Chat book, with advice and discussion from game design sages, sign me up for a copy--especially if you can bundle a "Best of" DVD with it. I tried to conjure up a witty title while listening to your podcast, but have failed thus far. My concepts so far have been really cheeseball...
"Keyboards and Couches: An Inside Look at Game Design and History"
"A Webcam's Eye View: Insider Chats with Game Design Legends"
"Game Design Wizardry, In Their Own Words - A Matt-Chat Retrospective, Vol.1"
"A View From The Couch: Game Design Masters"

I can't believe you are still poking at the steaming, bloated, very unsavory carcass of the whole ME3-debacle. I've avoided commenting, because I don't really care that much about Mass Effect. But I do agree with your wariness of BioWare 'caving in', though maybe not for the same reasons.

To any who are reading this, who were upset by the lack of "diverse endings" in ME3: You're upset. You feel betrayed. Fine. Now be "adult" about it. It is childish and juvenile to carry on and whine about not getting what you wanted or what you were "promised". But in cold, hard LIFE, an adult grasps reality. Bioware/EA don't *owe* you anything other than the 20-ish hours of gameplay which you already got by playing the game. You paid for gameplay, you got gameplay. As for the ending? Hey, I agree with you--THEY LIED. And not just the typical marketing/PR bull-crap "spin" either. There were direct statements by some BioWare luminaries that were untrue. Yes, it was more blatant and obvious and in-your-face than the the PR/marketing lies you've been fed before, but this isn't a new thing.

You folks who love Mass Effect DO have a proper recourse, an adult choice, which I guarantee will get BioWare's attention.... don't buy any DLC, don't buy the next game/installment/hand-waving-excuse. That's capitalism. If you're really pissed, don't waste your time griping on forums, or signing "e-petitions" or whatever. Write them a honest-to-God letter and explain that they have lost a customer due to their LYING, and that you will discourage as many folks as you can find from ever buying another EA/BioWare game--because they cannot be trusted. I can guarantee you that if EA received 1 MILLION PHYSICAL, PAPER, LETTERS OF COMPLAINT---they will certainly start doing a better job of things. Especially if they see a matching sales slump--that's how you get their attention.

Bioware's Lies

Bioware's Lies Condensed.

That seems like a decent summary of the "lies" referenced here. Essentially, they made some hasty claims that there would be answers and that the ending would be determined by the player's actions. Unfortunately, no matter what you do in the game, everybody gets one of the three endings. That's pretty lame given the buildup. Fans were expecting a few dozen different endings or possibly more. There's also the matter of Shepherd's weirdo behavior in the end, just accepting what the child says without even bothering to ask if there's any alternatives - such as the obvious "Why can't we just kill the Reapers and leave everybody else alone?" All valid criticism in my opinion.

Still, to take it to the lengths that these more rabid fans have is ludicrous. I'm a nerd myself, but even I have always felt that people who take this stuff TOO seriously are just a little bit nuts. Just accept that it wasn't up to par and move on, God knows a LOT of games have disappointed me severely, but I didn't try to sue somebody or obsess about it endlessly on forums.

There are no PC-centric podcasts worth listening to with the exception of Rock, Paper, Shotgun's podcast.
