Mark Plays... Outrun2006 Coast to Coast / Outrun2SP (PC)(Post Replay 2013)

Outrun2006SP a wonderful arcade game that found its way onto the PS2 and the Xbox as well as the XBox360 - not sure about the PS3 but I am sure it's on there too. Well at Replay 2013 I finally got the chance to sit down (barely as I am a tad too tall for the machine to really fit) and play me some Outrun2006SP. I also played the full sized two seater arcade game at the Namco Arcade at the Trafford Center but that also has a hard time accommodating my long legs (I am 6'8"). So my performance was hindered by me not being too good with the pedals resulting in some rather poor gameplay :P
After getting home today I figured up Steam on the PC and downloaded the PC version of the game I bought many eons ago and it worked great. I grabbed it at 60fps which YouTube sadly degraded to 30fps so the footage is not as smooth as the original. I just had to redeem myself a little - recover my crushed ego :P

Well here's a little of me playing the game on Easy and Hard. Enjoy!

Please check out the 'Replay 2012 Pinballs' video that focuses on the magnificent Pinball machines that were on display ready to play!

The video ends with my 'pickups' :)

Enjoy!
Cheers, Mark

Replay 2011 - Mark & Elise

We attended the 2011 edition of the Replay event in Blackpool (UK). We had a fantastic weekend. Here is our footage.

This is the 720p footage as YouTube does wonders (NOT) with darker footage at lower resolutions. Do check out the videos our friends made too!

Replay 2011 - day 1 - Teaser

Had an amazing day at the Norbreck hotel at Replay 2011. Met a lot of great people and the atmosphere was just awesome! And it is happening again tomorrow!

Retro geek heaven this is! I'll be going again in 2012 - it will be held in Manchester city a few weeks earlier even!

Blackpool Replay 2011 - the pre-arrival

Elise and I were graciously picked up at Manchester airport by mr Synthmonkey aka ZombieAndy and we experienced the seafront in the sunset.

Recommend Mammas / Mamma Mia on Topping street for great Italian food

We turned in early as we all had been traveling extensively and wanted to be fit and well rested for the first day of the Replay event!

Perhaps see you there!
More will follow!

The Game You Wish You'd Played Back Then: A Personal Question

Blade of Blackpoole: Awesome for '83. But now?Blade of Blackpoole: Awesome for '83. But now? Here's a question I've been pondering today: : If you could alter your history so that you could have played any game that you missed when it was new--what would you choose? For instance, maybe you missed out on a game because of your chosen platform or inability to upgrade--such as the early Amiga or Atari ST hits. Or maybe you took too long to move to DOS and missed out on the DOOM era. Then again, maybe it was CD-ROM games that slipped past you, and you didn't play MYST until long after the excitement died down.

The reason I ask is that we all know it's just not the same to play these games for the first time today. If you didn't play Ultima back in the 80s, you're very unlikely to appreciate it now. The same goes for just about any early classic; even Pac-Man and Tetris were probably much more impressive and mind-blowing back when they were released. No matter how we try to immerse ourselves and overlook the "limitations" of the era, it's still difficult to really appreciate them.

So what game would you choose? If you're having a hard time deciding, make it a top five or ten list.

I can't wait to read your responses!
