In reply to <a href="https://armchairarcade.com/perspectives/2016/06/05/quick-recap-first-comic-con-wizard-world-philadelphia/#comment-11053">Dennis</a>.

Thanks for the comment, Dennis. Interesting stuff. We have actually gone to the Reading Terminal Market multiple times, although always on the weekends (and in fact the last time we went we had Bassett's). Perhaps that's why I always perceived it as crowded.

I was never a fan of NYC - it's just too much hassle for me - so it's almost good to hear it would be a pain to attend the event there. I'm glad the Philly one is so relatively accessible.

I grew up in Philadelphia, though I've lived in NYC for several decades. I was familiar with the space the current convention center is in *before* it became the CC. I was astonished that the city got its political act together to build the CC, and tickled by the way they preserved the heritage of the former Reading Terminal train station that became the principal entrance. I also adored Reading Terminal Market. If it's food, you can get it there, and during days when there *isn't* something like a comic con at the CC, it's not normally overcrowded. Should you have another opportunity to go to it with the family, I recommend Bassett's ice cream.

I've been to the NYC comic con, put on by Reed Expositions. It takes the entire Javits Center, which occupies a couple of blocks on the west side of Manhattan. And even with the entire center being used, it's quite crowded. You examine the schedule and plan your itinerary before going, and keep in mind that it may take you half an hour to get from one program item to another.because of the size of the venue and the crowding. I was covering the event for a comics oriented web site, which is why I was there at all. Reed Expositions are pros and do it well, but you need the incentive of either being in the business or being serious fans to make mob scenes like that worth dealing with. (My hobby is literary SF and fantasy, and I help plan and run conventions devoted to it, but they are much smaller and lower key events.)

I'm pleased you enjoyed it, and it's certainly an excuse to cosplay next time.
