But like all good things, there is a downside to indulging to excess with gaming. In fact, new statistics from online hosting providers WestHost have revealed that some of us are willing to sacrifice real world relationships in order to keep on enjoying our latest gaming  experience.

For example:

• 43.5% of Americans have ignored calls in order to stay in and play video games
• 15.3% of Americans have pretended to be sick in order to stay in and play video games
• 5.4% of those aged 16 – 24 have said there had been a death in the family in order to stay in and play video games
• 38.7% of those aged 16 – 24 have lied to friends in order to stay in and play video games
