Gaming Desktop vs Laptop – What’s the Best Choice?

Just like the Android vs iOS feud seem to go on eternally, the clash between fans of gaming laptops and those of desktops, is nowhere near reaching a conclusion. Even though the common belief is desktops won the race, do laptops still have an ace up their virtual sleeve?

Gaming Desktop vs Laptop – What’s the Best Choice?

May 8, 2018 Posted by Andrei Kuznetsov Editorial No Comments

Thanks to the constant improvement in technology and nanotechnology, in particular, computers we use become smaller and smarter year after year. One great example in that direction is the smartphone everyone is carrying in their pockets nowadays. When you think about the fact that only 10 or 15 years back, phones could only be used to do basic math and play 2D games besides calls and texts, it’s really something. The same goes with the technology required to build the highest performing gaming laptops and desktops and, even though laptops managed to cut the distance, desktops still seem to have the upper hand. So, no matter if you’re buying a laptop to enjoy games at 24 Pokies online casino or a gaming desktop, check out the following aspects.

GPU Power

Ask any gamer and they will tell you there’s no way a gaming laptop will be able to properly fit and keep cool the Nvidia Titan Xp. And that statement is partially true because there’s simply not enough space in a laptop to fit such a large GPU and still be considered easy to carry around. In order to solve that, laptops usually use mobile versions of the original GPU’s engineered to fit the case of the computer. And even though you manage to get the same specs out of a laptop GPU, temperature is the aspect that changes everything. In order to provide maximum performance, a GPU needs to be kept cool and that requires even more space for the coolers and cooling systems, leading to a vicious circle for gaming laptops that simply do not have enough room.

CPU

Just like with the GPU, the biggest competitors in the CPU market right now, AMD and Intel, have designed mobile versions of their most-powerful CPUs. This is an aspect where laptops are a lot closer to desktops but still seem to be a bit behind. Again, you have to consider the two most important aspects when it comes to ultimate performance in gaming: temperature and power drain. In a laptop case, you are limited when it comes to both specifications and that makes it hard to reach the same stats a gaming desktop would reach.

Random Access Memory

Gaming laptops usually come with less RAM but just like with a desktop, you can always add some more afterwards. The thing is that you will rarely need to do such a thing since the 8 or 16 GB or RAM that gaming laptops come with from the factory is more than enough for even the most demanding games.

League of Legends is a great excuse for a more powerful machine.

Mobility

This is, perhaps, the most powerful weapon that gaming laptops can use in the fight against desktops. Indeed, it’s quite hard and uncomfortable to carry your computer case with you when you leave on a holiday. And since mobility is very important for gamers of all kinds, especially those playing at an Australian online casino, this feature that only laptops can offer represents the one thing desktops can’t outrun.

Bottom Line

Taking everything into consideration, you can’t ignore the fact that laptops made some serious steps forward in the last few years and their potential can’t be ignored. However, if you intend to play a very demanding game such as The Witcher III at maximum settings, you will still have to op for a desktop. On the other hand, if you want to enjoy an online slot at 24Pokies casino or simply play a couple of rounds of League of Legends with your friends while you wait for the airplane to takeoff, any of the modern gaming laptops will provide you with the mobility and power to get the job done. In the end, it’s all about how much price you put on mobility and the titles you’re looking to run on your gaming laptop or desktop.
