How Social Media can be Used to Educate Students?

August 26, 2020 Posted by A.K. Patel Editorial No Comments

Social Media has become a part of everyday life. There are very few people on the planet who don’t make use of social media platforms. There are a lot of businesses that thrive by promoting their products on social media. For instance, people running a CBD vape oil, home décor items, handmade items, and related businesses run a lot of campaigns and allure the users on the platform. One needs to know that; social media marketing is not just for business promotion alone but can also be used as an effective platform to educate students.

Ways by which social media becomes an excellent education tool

These are some of the ways by which social media becomes an excellent education tool.

  • Use Facebook pages for Classroom setup

The schools need not pull the students through the latest and new classroom techniques to provide a simulation similar to traditional classrooms. The teachers can make use of Facebook pages. The students are already acquainted with the usage of Facebook pages. Even if the student logs out of their accounts, they can still see what is posted on the Facebook page. If the teachers wish to make any announcements to the class, then they can post it on the page.

  • Use Facebook Groups for online classes and discussions

One can make use of the Facebook Groups itself to host online classes instead of relying upon the group video call applications like Google Meet, Cisco Webex, etc., The students already have a Facebook account and need not waste the other larger chunk of data on installing the other applications. One can host discussions as well on these platforms. The teachers can conduct doubt clearing sessions with students on these groups.

  • Use Instagram for storytelling

There are a lot of teachers who chose storytelling as the methodology to teach some of the toughest concepts to the students. One needs to make use of Instagram to present the digital learning content as stories using the stories option available. The stories automatically disappear after 24 hours. One can also save these stories in highlights option for future reference by the students.

  • Use Twitter as a noticeboard

Noticeboard is one of the common medium used in schools to deliver the most important messages to the students. The advantage of using Twitter as a noticeboard is that the same handle can be reused over and over again in the coming years. The limited usage of characters in Twitter messages proves to be very helpful.

  • Use Pinterest to provide reference material

One can make use of the Pinterest board to link all the important websites on the board. There are a whole lot of subtopics in the board to which one can link the reference material links like journals, academic articles, etc.

The schools can incorporate a lot of social media management tools in the market to manage content being posted on these platforms. Also, the schools can conduct essay writing competitions for students by making use of social media platforms like WordPress, Blogger, etc., The teachers can check the authenticity of these articles by passing it through plagiarism check as it is already available in digital format. These are some of the many other ways by which schools can make use of social media to educate students.
