What Is The Connection Between Slots and Chewing Gum?

While heavily frowned upon by all etiquette guide connoisseurs, it would seem that the “bad” habit of chewing gum is not that nasty after all. In fact, chewing gum comes with a lot more benefits in regards to your well-being, health, and social life than you could possibly imagine. For example, did you know that chewing the gum can make you look a lot friendlier, sexier, and bring you more party invitations?

According to a study by Trident, a person who chews gum appears to be more physically attractive in the eyes of others, while enjoying more popularity, a more active social life, and a more fulfilling sex life. Sounds pretty crazy, right? Well, there’s more! Chewing gum can apparently help you lose weight by limiting your intense need to snack while eradicating some of the stress in your life and even helping you keep your focus for a longer period of time. This is definitely something that some video and casino players have already found on their own, given the large number of people who chew gum while playing their favorite games. Does it make them feel more relaxed and capable of making better game decisions? Probably. Plus, if you count among them and you are curious to know what is the connection between slots and chewing gum and what else could chewing gum help you with, keep reading.

The “Almost Identical” Study: The Chewing Gum Twins

The interesting study revolved around a special art installation that featured a pair of identical twins – with identical clothing and styling of their hair. However, only one of the twins was asked to chew gum, while his brother was asked to maintain a neutral facial expression. Passers-by were asked to give their first impression on the twins, and answer a series of questions about them. The exhibition was named “Almost Identical” and the two brothers were placed one next to another inside the Museum of Contemporary Art in Buenos Aires. Policemen, businessmen, two twin sisters, and two twin brothers were all part of the experiment that required people to answer questions like ‘Which of the twins do you think would get invited to more social events? Which of the two is more popular in their group of friends? Which of the twins enjoys a better sex life?” participants were asked to put on a pair of headphones, carefully listen to all the questions, and indicate their answers with the help of a lighted pad with touch features.

People’s responses were quite surprising; for instance, out of the two brothers dressed up as police officers, the one who was not chewing gum was indicated as the “bad cop” and also as the one more likely to receive invitations to bridge games.

Slots and Chewing Gum

As mentioned before, there is also a close link between chewing gum and the popular game of slots millions of people worldwide love to play every time they get the chance. The first slot machines were actually vending machines that were coined in the ’80s. People had to drop a nickel into the dedicated coin slots and receive the products they wanted. By the year 1885, the first vending machines dedicated to gambling purposes were designed, incorporating toy horses that were racing around small-sized tracks. Bar and saloon patrons used to wager tokens and nickels and redeem them for cigarettes, drinks, or chewing gum. Chewing gum dispensers did not feature any slots for the nickels, which meant that patrons needed to complete the financial transactions at the bar. However, they did feature slots that used to eject chewing gum.

Other Potential Benefits Of Chewing Gum

Several thousands of years ago, the first chewing gum was a mix of tree sap, including Manilkara chicle and spruce. Today, chewing gum is made from a series of synthetic rubbers. Automatically, this means that gum has a series of benefits and risks on our health, but some of the most notable benefits worth mentioning are:

  • It can help relieve stress, especially during the first 15-20 minutes of starting a task, as well as keep you more alert and improve the memory.
  • It can assist people trying to quit their smoking habit.
  • It could prevent middle ear infections in kids.
  • Chewing gum is expected to help the gut go back to its normal function right after having gone through surgery.
  • Gum can also help you lose weight faster and easier since it is sweetened with artificial sweeteners that contain a small number of calories. This means it can help control the appetite while stopping you from overeating. Plus, certain studies suggest that shown that the act of chewing gum after serving lunch could decrease our hunger and cut our bad snacking habits by 10% throughout the rest of the day.
