The Best Horror Games Available Right Now

When did you last jump up scared after someone entered your room? A horror game that gets under your skin is sure to scare the daylight out of you. Horror games are of different kinds- they may be short and terrifying blasts of terror showing paranormal activity or more stealthy and slow-moving affairs that you need a little more time to get the hang of. No matter what kind the game is, a good horror game gets your pulses racing taking away your sleep for a few nights.

If you’re here to know which games can give you the shivers, we have what you are looking for. We are here with three top games where you face the terror and creepiness on your own or share your horror with your dear ones. If they are game for it, that is.

Also, watching scary movies or playing horror games is not necessarily unhealthy. Remember those anecdotes of people having a heart attack from watching a scary movie? As it turns out, the effects of a scary game should be minimal, similar to exercising. However, people with certain health conditions should probably pick safer options than these games below.

Phasmophobia

After its Early Access launch, Phasmophobia has climbed up the popularity charts rapidly, leaving other games like Balder’s Gate 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 on Steam way behind. Today, Phasmophobia has a following, and there are no signs of its popularity slowing down. Why is it so good?

While Phasmophobia is primarily a horror game, it combines elements of a detective game as you, along with three others, are to investigate what it is that spooks a haunted location and report back.

You’ll need to combine great detective skills with strong nerves to navigate through the scary dark rooms. You’ll be equipped with stuff like Ouija boards, a crucifix, a spirit box, and smudge sticks to complete various tasks. Along the way, you’ll have to ask the ghosts a few questions at the risk of annoying them. Be careful about it, as annoying a ghost isn’t a happy thing to do.

If you are already a fan, there are some tricks to make your gameplay even more exciting.

Ghost Hunter Corp

Taking inspiration from paranormal series and movies, Ghost Hunter Corp is a game good at leaving you spooked. Your task is to purify entities that have made places like castles, abandoned houses, and mansions. You’ll have devices that help you detect ghosts like the frequency analyzer, surveillance cameras, the EMF K2 detector, and threat detector. You’ll have to ensure your mission’s success after identifying the threat. You’ll be given an exorcism protocol at your disposal which will help you return the supernatural creatures to where they belong, using equipment like the Neutron-Gun, the Tiger Eye Stone, holy water, and more.

Ghost Hunter Corp is a multiplayer game you can play in a group of four on cooperation LAN or Steam friends as you go about exorcising ghosts that keep getting more and more deadly.

Ghost Hunter comes with a unique speech recognition feature that lets you communicate with ghosts of different kinds on a mic. While they’ll listen to you, be careful not to hassle them with your questions too long.

Resident Evil 2 Remake

Capcom’s adaptation of the iconic movie sticks to the survival-focused gameplay and does a good job at that. The result is an intriguing game that won’t allow you to just blast your way out. If you intend to leave the Racoon City Police Station alive, you’ll have to count your bullets and choose whom to fight with wisely. It is a game where you’ll have to use all your resources with great caution as each one of them: a few rounds on your pistol or a healing herb is very precious.

The facelift that Resident Evil underwent is a major contributor to the game’s success, which gets gorier and gorier. Though you are low on weapons, you are still encouraged to fight against zombies, which might expose you to some gory moments. While not wasting bullets sure is a challenge, it is only multiplied manifold with such blood and gore.

The Darker Side of Gaming

No matter how fun gaming is it is not all pretty. There are certain situations that can greatly diminish your experience or put you in danger. Such concerns are especially true with online gaming, where you can meet various people.

Cyberbullying or stalking could be one way your gaming experience will get compromised. Additionally, experts discourage players from revealing their personal details or using their real names as nicknames.

A third inconvenience might be that your Internet Service Provider throttles your connection, making it difficult to play. They might do this if they detect bandwidth-heavy activities during peak hours. For this purpose, a gaming VPN can do wonders. It encrypts information about your internet traffic, meaning ISPs won’t know when to throttle your traffic.

Conclusion

Horror games are cashing in as several gamers love the kick of having your heart pounding. Our top three picks come with excellent graphics that have you hooked. You would hate to abandon these games midway. Play solo or in groups, send a shiver down your spine as you open a creaking door, bracing yourself for the unknown that lies behind it. It’s creepy and scary, a real challenge to your nerves. Good luck!
