Video Games, Casinos, and Geek Culture: The Impact of Technology

March 17, 2022 Posted by Andrei Kuznetsov Editorial No Comments

In modern society, advanced technology has been felt in almost every industry. The introduction of these technologies and their continuous development continue to impact modern civilization. To a large extent, imagining these industries’ operation and smooth functioning without technology is virtually impossible. One industry where we have seen global upscaling is the gaming industry with interest in mobile gaming. As technology continues to advance, our gaming world becomes more interesting.

Succinctly, this article individually explores the effects of technology on these industries and how it has promoted geek culture.

What Impact Is Technological Advancement Having on Different Gaming Sectors?

It’s evident in the casino industry, where digital innovation has remodified the gambling and betting experience. Many years ago, if you wanted to play casino games, you would have to walk into a land-based casino closest to you. All that has changed now as you can play several casino games from the comfort of your home. You can be in one country and enjoy a similar gaming experience from the same casino game with someone in another country. All of these and more have been made possible through

This impact is also palpable in the video games industry. Interestingly, this is where technological advancement appears to have been most felt. What used to be video games many years ago – brick and mortar – have transformed into something more fun and energetic with various games to choose from. Video game companies continue to expand innovation to create better gaming experiences for players. The future of video games and casinos NZ is bright; with Al, 3D graphics, virtual reality, and advanced UX designs, these tech innovations have brought the geek culture to the mainstream.

Before now, geek used to be an “uncool” term. It was a socially awkward term synonymous with the word “nerd.” Geek culture has attained mainstream impact; creative expressions such as high-tech, big data, and startups have become ubiquitous. While a lot has been achieved with the impact of technology, that’s not all there is; many individuals globally believe this is the beginning of a more fulfilling experience.

Significant Effect of Technology on the Casino Industry

The casino industry has always thrived upon gambling and betting. Many people still participate in gambling due to mobile apps, websites, and the internet. As of 2012, interest in gambling has skyrocketed, making the industry worth over $100 billion.

Since its advent, playing and winning in gambling has always relied on dice rolling and betting on odds. With the availability of smart devices and phones, bettors can easily participate in gambling from the comfort of their homes.

Technically, technology has changed the entire outlook of the casino industry, not in the manner and rules associated with the games but by enhancing the structure of the casino. Today, you can log on to the internet to join and play in a casino. As of 2012, the record of mobile gambling rose to 75% and was predicted to grow even more in the coming years.

This record has grown beyond 100% in a decade, with the industry marked to reach $565 billion in revenue in 2022. While this industry has always generated revenue, it is noticeable that the exponential growth in its record is attributable to technology because mobile and internet gambling provides convenience, access, engagement, and is user-friendly.

The Video Game Industry and Technology

While our video games have been around for decades, there is a clear distinction from what the industry used to be a decade ago. Like the casino industry, the emergence of digital technology has influenced the video gaming industry. And with this, the industry has evolved significantly from its earliest days to our technology-savvy times. Interestingly, what we have now is only the tip of the iceberg for expectations in the coming years.

The days of pixelated screens, limited sounds and 2-D video games are far behind us. Today, video games are wrapped in 3D graphics, live gaming, virtual reality, and smart devices, all to improve the gaming experience. Unarguably, the effect of technology is vivid. The industry is currently growing on the back of thriving technology, making it easier for the industry to create modern gaming experiences that meet current market demands.

In exploring video games with the influence of technology, one realizes that present-day video games share no similarities with what was available decades ago. Its distinction is in operation, structure, and features introduced. It’s as though with technology, video games have undergone a rebirth. No doubt about this, because this has been reflected in the revenue record of the industry, which is over $170 billion.

Geek culture thrives on advanced technology. And since the impact of technology is present within every business sector — video games, casinos, and more, it has become impossible not to embrace it as the way into the future. And this has brought with it its mainstream dominance.
