The Need Of Puppy Insurance While Buying A New Puppy

October 17, 2022 Posted by A.K. Patel Editorial No Comments

Getting a new puppy can be very exciting; you get a new furry friend that you hope can become your best friend for years to come. In the midst of that excitement, do not forget to get an insurance cover for them. Puppies are sweet and adorable, but they can be a financial liability. Getting an insurance cover for your puppy early on is important.

Here are a few reasons why you need to get puppy insurance when buying a new puppy;

Puppies Can Be Accident Prone

Puppies are naturally curious and eager to get into everything. They are also very agile and playful and can run and jump around rather carelessly. This can be exciting and interesting to watch for you. However, this means that the pup can get into trouble that can lead to costly vet visits.

A puppy’s zealous play can easily cause a torn ligament, broken bone, or a sprain. Puppies can also eat something they are not supposed to such as socks or small toys that can cause an obstruction. Foreign body surgeries can be quite expensive and are common for puppies. Getting puppy insurance for that little furry friend can help you have an easier time with them.

Puppies are Prone to Diseases

Just like human babies, puppies have a weakened immune system are very susceptible to developing illnesses. Pups are also vulnerable to environmental stress because they can’t regulate their body temperature independently. Also, they can be very poor at regulating fluid and energy balance.

Puppies are also known to easily acquire illnesses such as parvovirus, distemper, kennel cough, adenovirus, leptospirosis, and vomiting and diarrhea. These illnesses can be expensive to treat if you cover these costs out of pocket.

Getting puppy insurance early on in the puppy’s life can help you make these vet visits easier. An insurance plan will also cover routine visits to the vet, which, for puppies, are quite regular as they have to get vaccinated.

With a puppy insurance policy, you won’t miss any visits to the vet and you can protect your pup’s immune system from being compromised when they are still very young. The result is a long, healthy life for your pet.

Get The Puppy Covered Before It Develops Long-term Health Conditions

Dogs can develop long-term health conditions that would necessitate prolonged treatment. It’s important to get pet insurance for your puppy before any long-term condition develops.

Unlike health insurance for humans, pet insurance companies are permitted to discriminate against pets with pre-existing health problems. In fact, most pet insurance policies specifically refuse to cover any treatment for a pre-existing condition. Some health issues could lead to the dog being denied insurance coverage altogether.

Getting puppy insurance early before any long-term heath problems crop up is important. If any long-term condition comes up when your puppy is already covered, then the insurance will likely cover the cost of treatment, even when such treatment is expensive.

There Will Be A Lifetime of Medical Care to Cover

When adopting a puppy, you are likely making a lifetime commitment to providing for its needs. This means decades of visits to the vet, which means bills that could total thousands.

While individual vet visits may not be expensive if you’re paying out of pocket, the cumulative amount could be high. With a puppy insurance policy in place, you can make the best decisions based on your puppy’s care needs rather than based on what you can afford.  This will make sure the pup gets the best care in their lifetime without straining you financially.

As a bonus, some pet insurance providers cover the event of your pet dying or getting lost. The insurer can refund the price of buying the puppy in case it dies or gets lost. In some cases, the insurer provides reward money for the person who finds and returns the puppy to you.

Your Insurance Will Likely be Lower

Pet insurance premium rates are based on various factors, including breed, location, and age. As such, younger pets are less expensive to insure than older ones.

We’re always looking for ways to save money, and getting puppy insurance early will do exactly that without compromising on medical care for your puppy. Your insurance premiums will be lower the younger your pup is. While this cost will increase as the pup gets older, you will have saved some money on the lower premiums.

The younger your dog is, the lower the amount of excess and co-insurance you will have to pay to the company. While these individual amounts may seem insignificant at first, cumulatively they translate into a huge sum. Puppy insurance can help you save a lot over the course of the pup’s life.

The Takeaway

Puppies are cute, sweet and energetic. However, they can be extremely vulnerable and they need special care. Having puppy insurance from early on in your ownership of the pup can save both you and the pup from having to deal with the stress of injury and sickness. For all these reasons, a pet insurance company should be on the top of your mind as you look to buy a new pup.

Remember, not all pet insurance providers are the same so make sure to do some research before deciding on the right puppy insurance for your new puppy. Also, ensure you’ll continually cover your dog throughout its lifetime, even in old age.

So, go get that new puppy, have it insured, and enjoy a lifetime of happiness together.
