Slot Machines: Common Myths Debunked

October 25, 2022 Posted by Jonathan Adams Editorial No Comments

If you are new to online gambling and have not tried casino games yet, this article will be in handy. It debunks the harmful myths about one of the most popular casino games — slots.

No matter where you are playing this game: on a gaming floor drinking a cocktail or at an online casino taking advantage of a welcome or a no deposit bonus (the most popular web casino promotions), slot mechanics will be more or less the same.

Unfortunately, today there are many harmful myths and misconceptions some players think are true. Our team of professional experts wants to debunk these total myths once and for all.

Slot machines are rigged

In short, not. Slot machines are intricate to program. Plus, there are several levels of teams watching slots, and every aspect of the machine that is programmed is subject to the gaming commission and supervisors. That is why slots can’t be randomly changed. There is a percentage a particular game must stay within. It is regulated by the state.

Some players believe while they are on a losing streak, they must wait until a winning combination appears on the screen; otherwise somebody else hits it as soon as they quit playing.

It is a myth. Slots are run by RNG (Random Number Generator). It’s running constantly and picking out random numbers. The moment when you click the button, RNG starts working and generating numbers, and the moment when you click it again, it stops and reveals the outcome.

If you think machines are rigged because when you’re losing and suddenly someone after you comes and hits the jackpot, you are wrong. They just press the button at the right time.

Playing slots is a waste of money

Another common myth about slot machines is that they’re a waste of money. While it’s true that you can’t always win, playing slots can be a lot of fun. Plus, you can win some money if you know what you’re doing. If you stick to playing at reputable casinos and follow

some simple tips, you can increase your chances of winning.

Tips to improve your chances of winning at slots:

  • Look for slot machines that offer higher payouts for making max bets.
  • If you gamble at land-based casinos, play at off-peak times when they are less crowded.
  • Try different machines until you find one that’s lucky for you.
  • Stick to your budget and don’t chase your losses.

If you keep in mind that slots are a game of pure chance, you won’t hope to receive huge sums, but treat them like a pleasant pastime that may bring in money.

You have to bet the maximum amount to win the jackpot

It is a harmful myth. While it is true that you will have to bet the maximum amount to win the jackpot on most progressive machines, some allow you to win the jackpot, even if you don’t bet the max.

As we said, slots are subject to Random Number Generator, meaning that it doesn’t matter what the size of your bet is, the final result will be unpredictable.

Sometimes players get the maximum available payout with a minimum bet made, and sometimes — vice versa — with a max wager.

Casinos can change a slot machine RTP

Casinos are unable to change slots RTP on the fly. The payout percentage is set by the software provider and approved by gaming regulators. If a casino wanted to change the payout of a slot machine, they would need approval from the gaming regulator — which is highly unlikely to be given.

This myth likely comes from the fact that casinos can change the denominations of a slot machine. For example, a casino may have a $0.25 slot machine and a $1 slot machine with the same game. The $1 slot machine will have a higher payout percentage because the denomination is higher. That leads players to believe that the casino has changed the payout of the machine when in reality, the payout is the same — it’s just a higher percentage because of the higher denomination.

It is impossible to win at slot machines

It is widely believed that it is impossible to win at slot machines. That is simply not true. While the odds of winning on a slot machine are always against the player, they can still increase their chances of winning.

There are two types of slot machines: progressive and non-progressive. Progressive machines offer the largest jackpots but the worst odds.

Non-progressive slots have smaller jackpots but better odds. We recommend you opt for non-progressive pokie games.

Another way to improve your chances of winning is to play multiple machines. That improves your chances of hitting the jackpot because you are playing more games at the same time.

Don’t forget to gamble responsibly. Slot machines can be addictive, and you should never bet more money than you can afford to lose. If you think you may have a gambling problem, please seek help from a professional.
