It’s set to be an extremely exciting year in gaming with a number of huge releases just around the corner, regardless of chosen gaming platform whether through one of the consoles, on mobile, or even on PC, there’s bound to be a release to pique interest. With the big push in gaming over recent years providing an option to play live games across a huge number of genres, this trend will certainly continue well into 2024. So, which are the big winners to come this year?
Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth – A continuation from the 2020 remake of the extremely popular Final Fantasy 7, Rebirth is set to continue the story post-Midgar and into the overworld with all of the exciting storylines that follow. Whilst there’s no clear information on exactly how far the story will go, there have been some hints dropped from the trailers.
We’ve seen some favorite characters like Cait Sith, so we at least know we’ll be visiting the Gold Saucer. Clips have also shown flashbacks to Nibelheim as well as the reveal for Vincent, so players can be sure we’ll be revisiting this part of the story too. It has already been confirmed that there will be three parts to the game, assuming Intergrade isn’t included in that, so there’s still one more installment of the remake to be delivered.
Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree – Although it doesn’t have an official release date just yet, there are suggestions that the update could be arriving any time in the very near future. With Elden Ring already being one of the most popular games of the past few years, it’s no surprise that the DLC that will follow will be right up there as one of the most popular games too.
There isn’t really any information available for what will be included in the DLC, but FromSoft have such a solid track record that fans are very confident in what they’ll be able to deliver. There are hopes that there will be a lot of content included in the DLC to re-ignite that Elden Ring spark, and no doubt lead to countless more playthroughs.
Hades 2 – In recent years, the roguelike and bullet-hell genre has gone through something of a resurgence with a huge number of smaller indie titles being introduced, and many fans hold the first Hades game somewhat responsible for this rise in popularity.
Although no date has been revealed, it’s expected that early access will be available in Q2 of 2024, and fans are eagerly awaiting to see what the studio can come up with for the second installment of the game. Hades really did change how some fans see bullet-hell and roguelike games, so it has all of the blueprints for success.
Fable 4 – Whilst still in speculation, there is a small chance that Fable 4 could be seeing a release in 2024. Already an extremely popular game series, the trailer for Fable 4 has really managed to set itself apart from other games and there’s a lot of excitement for what this game might bring, particularly as a game that looks to bring back many popular RPG elements that are missing in modern games whilst also keeping some of the silliness that makes Fable what it is.
Fans will be hopeful to receive more news on a possible release date at some point this year, but it will certainly still remain at the top of the list as one of the most anticipated games of the year until further news is revealed.
