Hyperkin has announced two new color variants for its 16-bit handheld, the SupaBoy Portable Retro Gaming Console. Releasing this Fall, the console will be available in SupaBoy Crimson, a standard edition featuring a deep red translucent shell inspired by the Japanese Famicom, and SupaBoy Prime, a limited-edition retro grey model echoing the pastel aesthetic of the Super Famicom. Notably, this launch marks the very first time the SupaBoy will be officially available in Europe. I have the original North American version and can confirm it’s a solid bit of kit.

Designed for physical media enthusiasts, the SupaBoy plays original Super Nintendo and Super Famicom cartridges directly without the need for software emulation, internet connections, or ROM downloads. The hardware supports NTSC, PAL, and JP cartridges without region lockouts, playing games on a 4.3-inch IPS screen. The device features a rechargeable lithium-ion battery rated for up to 10 hours of gameplay on a single charge.

For those who want a more traditional console experience, the SupaBoy also includes an integrated AV out to connect seamlessly to a TV via composite. By utilizing the two built-in controller ports on the front of the unit, players can plug in original controllers and transform the handheld into a standard home console. The new Crimson and Prime editions will replace the current SupaBoy models on the market and are expected to retail for an MSRP of $129.99 / €129.99 / £119.99.
