Since the time of that review, they’ve released a Nintendo 64 module, various disc-based game compilations, and the long-awaited light guns. There’s still much more to come from Playmaji for their intriguing platform, but again, who knows exactly when.

Amazon purchase link.

We were wondering when something like this might happen after Atari bought the remaining Intellivision IP from the disastrous Amico project, and here it is. Oddly named Intellivision Sprint, it’s a mini Intellivision console with 45 built-in games, two wireless controllers mimicking the original design, double-sided overlays for every included game, and expandability.

It’s the latter that’s especially intriguing because not only can you connect original controllers via the USB-A port and the proper adapter, but that same USB-A port is said to support the play of additional games. Whether that just means Atari-supplied SD card game packs or user-supplied as well remains to be seen, though obviously there’s considerable desire for the latter, especially without a cartridge port. While a cartridge port would have been nice – even if it was just a dumper like Atari’s + console series – and even without the ability to use your own ROMs, SD card game packs are still intriguing.

Atari Intellivision Sprint wireless controller and overlays.

I still have a very good original Intellivision collection, but it’s a finicky system. This will be a nice way to play many of those games in a more authentic, modern way. Frankly, it’s the type of project the Amico team should have started with. Nevertheless, the current Atari regime continues to make smart decisions. I’m definitely looking forward to this one.

Here’s the full built-in game list:

Armour Battle

Sadly, there are no Dungeons & Dragons games, even in their non-infringing title versions, but again, that should be easy to rectify via the USB-A port, one way or the other. I’ve been told this will release on December 5, 2025, in the US and Australia, and on December 23, 2025, in Europe.

Here’s Atari’s description of the new console:

“For its 45th anniversary, the Intellivision Sprint brings 45 of the system’s best games back to living rooms – now upgraded with HDMI and wireless controllers. Play Boulder Dash in its first official Intellivision release, along with classic favorites Baseball, Shark! Shark!, Astrosmash, and more. Each game comes with new overlays that map the game’s specific controls.”

As we mentioned in our preview way back in January 2024, My Arcade and Atari have teamed up for what should be an ultimate gaming handheld, the Atari GameStation Go. It’s now available for pre-order direct from Atari for $179.99 (Amazon link and link for My Arcade GameStation Retro Gamepad). While that may seem like a lot, it’s packed with over 200 console, arcade, and modern games, as well as a d-pad, spinner, trackball, and a numeric keypad to make controlling its various built-in games as authentic as possible. This is the type of handheld I was trying to get made for years, and now, My Arcade and Atari have finally done it.

There’s no word yet on whether or not you can add your own games, but it would be criminal if you couldn’t considering what’s onboard and given My Arcade’s past history with allowing you to do so, at least with the GameStation Pro. No more guesswork.

Playmaji has introduced two new game volumes compatible with their versatile Polymega console, Polymega® Collection Vol. 11 – ADVENTURE® and Polymega® Collection Vol. 12 – TEMPEST®. They’re available to pre-order now for a July shipment.

Each multi-platform, multi-game collection includes:

Polymega Game DVD

Visual Companion

Controller Reference

Polymega Collection Sticker

Collection Pin

Polymega® Collection Vol. 11 – ADVENTURE includes Adventure (2600), Dark Cavern (2600), Dark Chambers (2600, 7800), Dracula: The Undead (Lynx), Haunted House (2600), Lost Tomb (arcade), Secret Quest (2600), SwordQuest: EarthWorld (2600), SwordQuest: Fireworld (2600), and SwordQuest: WaterWorld (2600).

Polymega® Collection Vol. 12 – TEMPEST includes Berzerk (arcade, 2600), Black Widow (arcade), Frenzy (arcade), I, Robot (arcade), Major Havoc (arcade), Quantum (arcade), Tempest (arcade), Tempest 2000 (Jaguar).

While it’s arguable there’s sufficient value in each of these collections, reaching the dozen DVD plateau is pretty good, plus there’s another new platform, the Atari Jaguar, on the compatibility list (although not open to user-owned software yet). Let’s just hope Playmaji can get those light guns to us soon!

Titled The First Console War, this new expansion showcases the saga of Atari’s first major competitor in the video game console space–Mattel’s Intellivision.

This second DLC is another major expansion to Atari 50’s catalog of content and includes 19 additional playable games and eight video segments that tell the story of Atari’s first major rivalry in the console market. Told through video interviews with M Network programmer Jane Terjung, video game historians Leonard Hermand and Mike Mika, and more, The First Console War delves deep into the video game console market’s landscape of the era and ultimately explains how and why Mattel made the decision to create games for its biggest competitor.

The DLC will be available on PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and Series X|S, and PlayStation 4 and 5. Owners of the original game on the Atari VCS will receive the DLC content for free in an update to the game in early 2025.

The First Console War games list includes:

Air Raiders – 2600 M Network
Anteater – 2600 M Network (unreleased, based on Stern IP)
Armor Ambush – 2600 M Network
Astroblast – 2600 M Network
Frogs & Flies – 2600 M Network
International Soccer – 2600 M Network
Dark Cavern – 2600 M Network
Star Strike – 2600 M Network
Super Challenge Baseball – 2600 M Network
Super Challenge Football – 2600 M Network
Swordfight – 2600 M Network (rare, unreleased)
Sea Battle – 2600 M Network (rare, unreleased)
Tower of Mystery (unreleased prototype, recently rescued)
Video Pinball – 2600
Basketball – 2600
Hardball – Atari 8-bit (XE)
Final Legacy (prototype) – 5200
Xari Arena – Atari 8-bit
Desert Falcon – 7800

Here’s what to expect in the second DLC expansion:

Video interviews with M Network programmer Jane Terjung, Activision’s David Crane & Garry Kitchen (worked on/published for both platforms), homebrew programmer Dennis Debro, and historians Leonard Herman & Mike Mika

A brand new timeline explaining the challenge to Atari’s VCS by Mattel’s Intellivision–the first major rivalry in console games

19 more Atari arcade classics, including rescued prototypes like Tower of Mystery and rare, unreleased M-Network titles like Swordfight, Anteater, and more

The First Console War DLC features additional interviews, more vintage ads, and even more never-before-seen historical artifacts, all interwoven to reveal the previously untold story of Atari and Mattel’s intense rivalry. Highlights from the timeline include unique and often overlooked innovations and hidden gems from the late 1980s, video interviews with industry professionals like Activison’s David Crane and Garry Kitchen, and much more!

The First Console War launches globally on November 8, in concert with the physical release of Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration Expanded Edition on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5 for $39.99. The physical release contains the original game and both DLCs.

A Steelbook version for Nintendo Switch, which will include Atari 2600 art cards, miniature arcade marquee signs, and an Al Alcorn Replica Syzygy Co. business card, will retail for $49.99 USD.
