Despite that disappointment, it seems like a solid overall product, but I do also dislike the fact that it’s available in two SKUs with different built-in games. They’ve done that before with their various handhelds, but it’s certainly far less practical to buy multiple $200+ large-footprint countertop devices if you want to play the games they’re unable to put on a cartridge or include as built-ins on other devices (licensing restrictions are, as always, a bear).

There are 22 games to choose from, including Breath of Fire II, Final Fight 2, Captain Commando, Mega Man 2, and Street Fighter II, although it’s important to note that in this count are the same games, just from different regions. Whether you want to play the NES, Famicom, Super Famicom, or Super NES versions of the games, they’re there. This is particularly nice since there are often minor differences between regions.

My personal recommendation is Super Ghouls’n Ghosts for the Super NES. It’s a great update to an already classic, and notoriously difficult, arcade game.

1942 X RepliCade

The 1942 X RepliCade cabinet is a faithful 1/6-scale recreation of the Romstar / Capcom 1942 lowboy arcade machine, with Japanese-style diecast metal coin slot, customizable DIP-switch and cabinet settings, added HDTV connectivity, and a bonus 1943 Mini Arcade Stick for simultaneous two-player gameplay.

1943 X RepliCade Overhaul Edition

The 1943 X RepliCade Overhaul Edition contains the same classic games as the 1942 X RepliCade machine, but with extra design flairs on the 1/6-scale cabinet. The overhauled replica Dynamo cabinet features a unique coin door security bar, a mini bat-top joystick, microswitch buttons, yellow T-molding, customizable operator DIP-switch settings and more. Just like the 1942 cabinet,1943 X RepliCade features HDTV connectivity and includes a bonus 1943 Mini Arcade Stick, which can be stored in the rear of the machine. 

New Wave is dedicated to recreating the authentic arcade experience with its line of premium collectibles, all of which replicate the features and vintage feel of the arcade machines we grew up with, in 1/6-scale. Both 1942 and 1943 X RepliCade cabinets come complete with authentic wood cabinet construction, illuminated marquee and cabinet accents, and premium LCD color screen in 3:4 aspect ratio (vertical orientation). When it does finally come out, it will take the total number of Street Fighter games to near 20. Each of these titles has featured unique stages for players to enjoy and narrowing all these down to a top five is not an easy task. Luckily for you, we love a challenge and have done just that below.

Casino Stage – Street Fighter II

This level is no regular casino. You will find no online casino bonus here, no dealers, no table game, no slots. Instead, what you will find is two fighters pummelling the life out of each other. The casino stage that appears on Street Fighter II games features neon signs, a shopping mall and an elegant stone lion. The stage is visually stunning and features some tough opponents, making it one of our absolute favourites on any Street Fighter game.

Metro City Bay Area – Street Fighter V

The very first stage on Street Fighter V is a memorable one. Metro City is a rundown, decaying former industrial heartland that is now populated with rusty vehicles and dust. Its aesthetic is perfect for the gritty fights that you must traverse to pass onto the next stage. We also liked the fact that the stage features day and night levels. Experiencing the stage in light and darkness is a very different experience, helping to keep things fresh for the player.

Overpass – Street Fighter IV

Overpass is featured on Street Fighter IV. Set in the Kyoto region of Japan, a large group of children watch on as you and your opponent battle it out underneath a large suspension bridge. The ground is littered with puddles and regardless of who wins, those kids go mad when the bout is over. What’s more, Overpass also possesses the catchiest theme music in the entire game. We were singing ‘Tokyo’ for days after playing it.

Kanzuki Estate – Street Fighter V

Originally appearing as the setting of the ‘Sakura Ganbaru!’ manga, Kanzuki Estate got the Street Fighter treatment in the fifth iteration of the series. The vast Estate has a distinctive feel with a mix of traditional Japanese and European architecture as well as rivers, hills and even its own microclimate.

Battle Harbour – Street Fighter II

Battle Harbour is one of a select few Street Fighter’s set in the United States. It is a port located in a sleepy town that hosts street fights every single day. Some of these bouts are for beginners with crash mats placed down by the harbour. Others, however, are for professionals only and it is in these fights that you will need to prove yourself against Ken in order to advance to the next stage.
