These SSHEMO NFC Amiibo Tags provide Amiibo-like functionality without having to collect all of the figures. Although Amiibos aren’t much of a thing these days, they’re still the only way to unlock certain features in games. Although these 24 cards are specifically designed for use with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on the Nintendo Switch, they should also work on other Nintendo NFC-capable systems and games like The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity.

For my testing, I tried it the Switch version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. First, I registered the card using the Register Owner and Nickname under the amiibo option in System Settings. I then activated the NFC option in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Simple.

You get two bonus analog stick covers in the package. I’m not a fan of these, so won’t be using them, but they’re still a nice free gift. The 24 cards come in a tiny plastic case. They’re quite convenient to carry around and store, although the stats side of the card has very tiny details, so it’s all but impossible to make out the text.

Overall, this is a nice value. It saves you the trouble of tracking down all of those expensive – and very difficult to find these days – physical Amiibos. If this is something you can find useful, it definitely works.

Some video games are very important in the video game
scene. These are games that played an essential role in the history of video
games, leaving ripples you can still feel in today’s games. Long before Xbox
360, PlayStation 4, and Wii U, there was Nintendo 64, Atari 7800, and Sega
Master System. Without these influential titles from some of the original
gaming systems, like the PA
lottery bonus code, the
whole genres may not exist. Below are some of the unique video games of all.

1. Metal Gear Solid, 1999

It was a close call between Hideo Kojima’s stretching
intelligence adventure and Core Design’s original Tomb Raider. Both brought significant
environmental interaction, fascinating characters, and cinematic enthusiasm in
the 1990s action-adventure genre. The original MGS brought stealth shooters and
gave emerging strata of auteur game designers the confidence to be both distinctive
and epic.

2. Super Mario Bros, 1985

Nintendo had already familiarized the platform game
idea via its Mario Bros and Donkey Kong arcade titles, but this home console
adventure improved the genre, hence creating a lively secret-filled world while
providing accurate physics-boosted dominance over the lead protagonist. Almost
all games with a controllable character and an explorable world have learned
something from Super Mario Bros.

3. Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, 1998

With its multilayered narratives threads, playful
spirit, vibrant, lively world, and diverse interactions, it’s effectively a
workshop of ideas about player agency, a game design school, and a discovery.

4. Tetris, 1984

The ingenious puzzler was available on various home computers
before a deal was struck with Nintendo to make it a launch title for the game
boy. The deceptively simple design made it hugely accessible and compelling,
inspiring a new generation of abstract, highly contained puzzles.

5. Doom, 1993

Excellent horror sci-fi aesth+etics, perfect controls,
brilliant level design, weird enemies – Doom has it all. Id Software’s
controversial shooter angered the Religious Right when it burst out of the PC
shareware scene, attracting a generation of teenagers to spend days blasting
monsters with a shotgun. But Doom was more than a brainless blaster, setting
the speed, tone, and conventions of 3D game design forever.

6. Elite, 1984

It took two years for Thatcherite free-trade politics, Ian Bell and David Braben, and a Space Odessy, Isaac Asimov to write their groundbreaking trading sim and space-combat, which allowed players to forge their life among the stars. Elite changed the idea of open-world game design into a business proposal, and let a generation of players – and future developers – to see games as an experience and not as ‘just’ a competitive endeavor.

7. Grand Theft Auto III, 2001

Developing on the cult success of DMA Design’s first
two gangster escapades, GTA III takes the series into 3D, stuffing the Liberty
City streets with thieves, drug smugglers and corrupt cops. It also lets the
players find their way through the havoc. The style and structure of the game
inspired many imitators, with its division between optimal side-quest and main
story missions. The collision between shooter, action-adventure and RPG
conventions later refined by Ubisoft with its ‘tower unlocks’ and fast travel
mechanics, but GTA III id the godfather.

When it comes to gaming Nintendo might as well be viewed as the pioneer. If you are like most seasoned gamers you can probably remember when the original Nintendo console came out. Sure, you had the Atari before the Nintendo, but it was Nintendo that took the graphics and gameplay to the next level. With games like Mario and Mike Tyson’s Punch Out, Nintendo quickly grew as a household gaming staple. It is true that when Sony and Microsoft entered the gaming market years later Nintendo kind of got pushed aside. However, this doesn’t mean that Nintendo hasn’t done their part of releasing innovative games and consoles. Just look at what they are offering in the near future.

The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

When most people think of Nintendo they tend to think of Mario. This is completely understandable as the innovative animation has been the staple of the company since the beginning. When it comes to the role-playing side of things Zelda is Nintendo’s staple. The Zelda series is without a doubt one of the most iconic that the Nintendo team has created and that is why they have chosen to create a sequel to their latest Zelda game. Perhaps the most interesting thing about this follow-up game is that it sets a huge tone shift. From the onset of the game, Zelda and Link will be thrust into an eerie crypt where Link suffers some kind of injury. That is about all you get from the teaser trailer, but there is no denying that this installment of the game creates a much creepier playing environment.

A New Animal Crossing

Who doesn’t love the quaintness and homey feeling that comes along with happy animals, calm villages, and impeccably decorated houses? Well, that is exactly what you get when you play games like A New Animal Crossing. Unfortunately, it looks like players are going to have to wait a little longer to experience this type of serene environment. The game was pushed back to March 20th, 2020 and players aren’t happy. Players might not be happy about the delay, but they are certainly intrigued as to the reasoning behind the delay.

The President of Nintendo simply stated that he wanted to avoid the crunch period. He didn’t want to put his workers, developers, and testers through the crunch period. He also stated that it was important that his employees experience a balanced work and home life. It is rare for a company to talk about their inner workings in public and there has the be something said about an employer that really want to better the working environments and condition of his employees.

Where Is The New Switch

The Nintendo Switch was released back in 2017, but it has since seen wide praises. There is simply no denying that the system isn’t one-of-a-kind. This is what threw most Nintendo enthusiasts when Nintendo showed up to E3 without a new switch. It’s been almost three years and there have been rumors that a new model was coming out this year, but why wasn’t it present at E3? There was no reasoning behind the disappearance of the Switch, but this doesn’t mean that there won’t be one. It just means that you probably won’t be introduced to it this year. At least not before the major holidays. To keep your anticipation at bay, you can take advantage of online gambling sites PokiesHQ.

Luigi’s Mansion 3

Luigi’s Mansion was never a major hit for Nintendo, but that doesn’t mean that they didn’t push it. And, this is one thing you have got to love about Nintendo. If they do not succeed, they will try and try until they do. It looks like they might have just done that with Luigi’s Mansion 3. The latest entry of the game not only looks amazing, but it looks generally scary. This edition of the game could catapult the entire series to new heights. For the previews of the game, it also looks like the team of developers did an amazing job blending horror with comedy. Not only this, but it looks like there is going to be a co-op campaign available as well.

The video game industry is almost its own type of Hollywood. But who are the most easily recognisable characters in the modern video game industry?

The video game industry can be considered a type of Hollywood all of its own. There are celebrity characters, so well known that there is hardly a gamer on earth who does not know them. In fact, some will even argue that the video game industry is built on the backs of just a few well-known characters.

Of course, it isn’t as easy to be a recognised video game character as it is film star. This, perhaps, is simply because the video game industry is still young, at least when compared to the film industry. Let’s take a look at the most recognisable video game characters in the industry today.

Mario

Mario, otherwise known as Super Mario, is about as unlikely a hero as could be asked for. A short, pudgy Italian plumber isn’t exactly what one would call traditional hero material. But, show a person the face of Mario, and chances are good they will know who he is. What’s more bizarre is that Mario has almost no character. He doesn’t speak, barely emotes, and is practically nothing more than an emotionless cardboard cut out.

Either way, Mario is easily the most recognisable face in video games today. Oh, and his brother Luigi as well, of course.

Pac-Man

Although not technically a character, Pac-Man is a video game symbol that will likely live on for some time. Yes, he is nothing but a yellow circle with a mouth, but gamers love him regardless and he has even cropped up in online pokies! There have been other attempts to bring Pac Man into the modern gaming world, but all have failed for one reason or another. Still, Pac-Man remains recognisable, even if he is still just a chomping mouth.

Pac-Man has been around for decades, transcending video games right from the start.

Lara Croft

Originally gaining enormous popularity simply for being a busty babe in a video game, Lara Croft has become a well-loved industry legend. She has a great deal more character than Mario, at least, especially given her most recent transition. In the latest Tomb Raider games Lara has gone from being nothing more than a sex symbol to a strong female protagonist, offering gamers a much more likeable and relatable human image.

Doom Guy

The so-called Doom Guy doesn’t even have a name. He is simply the marine in Doom that kills a whole bunch of demons, and in alarmingly violent ways. But show a gamer his picture and the chances are good they will know who he is. If this list is proving anything, it’s that video game characters don’t have to be charismatic to be recognisable.

Zelda and Link

And, yet again, more characters that are hardly known for being talkative, at least in the case of Link. Easily spotted for his pointy ears and green clothing, Link has said not one word in the entire Zelda franchise. Zelda might be a bit more talkative, but is perhaps not as recognisable as the hero of the game. Either way, fans love them both to this very day, after decades.

If you’re looking to catch up with the best games of 2016 that you may have missed, or are looking forward to some fascinating new releases, there’s plenty of gaming entertainment to enjoy.

Last year was another exceptional year for console and mobile gamers. PlayStation fans flocked to check out the concluding installments of Nathan Drake’s adventures in Uncharted 4, and Xbox One gamers enjoyed a chaotic end to the year with the deeply impressive Gears of War 4.

But perhaps the biggest console gaming breakthrough hit was Overwatch. This award-winning game from Blizzard Entertainment fused elements of popular battle arena games with a diverse range of characters to ensure that fast-paced combat remained a central part of the gaming year.

However, it was mobile gaming that really seized the headlines in 2016. As well as Pokémon Go causing all manner of public health warnings, Nintendo gave us Super Mario Run that shows that even a simple platformer can deliver endless mobile gaming fun. However, it’s the sheer diversity of the mobile gaming realm that continues to impress. From acclaimed sports simulators like NBA 2K17 to the impressive jackpots that can be found by playing the casino games at Casino Euro, it’s clear that gaming in the modern era is incredibly far-reaching.

So what can we expect from the titles to be released in 2017? The mobile realm looks to enjoy no less than two further titles from Nintendo as Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing are expected to become big hits later this year.

Developers have already built up an impressive list of titles for our favorites consoles. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard will be released in just a few days and will deliver one of the most terrifying gaming experiences of modern times, particularly since it will be fully playable in virtual reality on supported systems.

For those who looking for a good combat title should find that For Honor caters to their most violent needs with an array of vikings, samurais, and knights to battle with in a great multiplayer environment.

The much-delayed Mass Effect: Andromeda will eventually arrive on our consoles on 21 March (23 March in Europe) and will offer plenty of intergalactic adventures for sci-fi fans. And with familiar titles like Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon, Legend of Zelda, and Red Dead Redemption making highly anticipated returns alongside our favourite casino games, it looks to be yet another amazing year for gamers of all persuasions.

Nintendo had their long-awaited Switch presentation last night and revealed additional details about a platform that is expected to be the company’s sole combined console and handheld gaming strategy going forward. Perhaps most important, though, is that that presentation also kicked off pre-order opportunities in the US at Amazon, Best Buy, Target (where I ended up ordering my grey system and Mario Kart and Zelda games from after several false starts), and GameStop, for its March 3, 2017 release date. MSRP, which shouldn’t budge until at least 2018, is set at $299.99 (which pretty much falls in line with my earlier prediction, although I was expecting a few different SKUs instead of just the one, although it is available in grey or blue/red neon styling).

What follows, are the system’s key details. What I find most interesting is that it fits our prediction of 720p resolution and about 3 hours of battery life when used as a handheld. Neither is especially great, but are good enough for the first iteration of this product. Finally, here’s a list of the games, plus what looks like Nintendo actually trying to take their classically weak account systems and online services to a level at least somewhat similar to what Sony and Microsoft are doing, including having a premium tier with a subscription fee.

Videogame hell has frozen over and something tons of Nintendo fans have been clamoring for for years has finally happened. Nintendo will be releasing a TV game version of their classic NES console called the NES Classic Edition on November 11. It will be a miniature version of the iconic boxy NES design that forgoes the cartridge port for 30 built-in (and truly legendary) first and third party titles. Instead of composite output it will support HDMI out, and instead of two original style controller ports it will have Wii compatible ports. One classic style controller is included, which presumably will also work on the Wii or Wii U.

NES Classic Edition and optional second gamepad

I admit that while I always said this would be a way for Nintendo to make easy money, I didn’t expect them to actually go through with it because it would cannibalize sales on their Virtual Console digital store for their modern platforms. Unfortunately for Nintendo, the Wii U hasn’t sold and the 3DS is in its inevitable decline, so this holiday season was looking pretty bleak outside of external initiatives like Pokémon GO. With the NX not coming out until at least March 2017, this is the perfect product to help with the continued rehabilitation of the Nintendo name leading up to that new system’s release.

Outside of the so-called Nintendo faithful, who are passionate about Nintendo’s first party games, there hasn’t been a lot for other gamers with more diversified tastes to feel good about the brand in recent years. The NES Classic Edition is a brilliant nostalgia play that should sell millions this holiday season and create good vibes all around until Nintendo launches the NX. That’s wonderful momentum and something I’m not sure Nintendo could have gotten any other way.

While there are obviously a plethora of ways to play classic NES games, from emulation to excellent clone systems and everything in-between, there’s something special about a Nintendo-led product. I mean, just look at it! And for $60, and no doubt slightly less during holiday sales and specials, it goes near impulse buy territory.

Perhaps the best part about this upcoming release is that it points to TV game versions of the SNES and other Nintendo consoles, and perhaps even a dedicated portable version of the classic Game Boy, just with a modern screen that’s actually enjoyable to use. This to me is the Nintendo that everyone – not just the Nintendo faithful – can feel good about. The prospects for a successful NX launch increased dramatically in the past week.

What follows are 16 facts about The Legend of Zelda series, then an infographic that illustrates them:

Zelda and Mario (here) were developed at the same time, so the two borrowed some elements from each game. The fire bar from Zelda made its way to Mario and the piranha plant from Mario crossed over to the Zelda games.

You might notice Link’s green outfit and long cap that resembles another character. That is because Link is actually based on Walt Disney’s depiction of the boy who never grows old – Peter Pan.

The triforce has become an icon in itself that is almost always tied to the Zelda games. You can see this logo in every game. This emblem was based on a Japanese emblem called the Mitsuuroko, which translates to “The Three Dragon Scales.”

One thing that fans might not notice in some of the game art is that Link usually holds the sword in his left hand. That’s right. Link is (usually) left-handed.

The developers really put a lot of effort in the development of their dungeons. This is noticeable when you finally reach the second quest in the original The Legend of Zelda game. The first five dungeons from the second quest spell Z-E-L-D-A.

The Japanese developed the game, so it’s no surprise that they get more perks than in other countries. Aside from having a much better soundtrack quality in the game, the Japanese version of The Legend of Zelda also came with stickers.

Link was originally going to start with a sword, but late in the development of the game they decided to give it to him instead via an old man who tells him, “It’s dangerous to go alone! Take this.”

Speed runs are now famous in every video game out there. This is where people will try to finish the game in the fastest way possible. The Legend of Zelda is no exception either. “Lackattack24” is an addict gamer that entirely completed The Legend of Zelda in 30 minutes and 6 seconds.

According to Miyamoto, the name Zelda was inspired by the wife of author F. Scott Fitzgerald, who was named Zelda.

The second quest from The Legend of Zelda was an accident. This is all thanks to a programming mistake that left the cartridge with half of the memory free to use.

The late Robin Williams was such a big fan of The Legend of Zelda games that he named his daughter after the titular princess Zelda.

This game has quite a history with its foreign release. The first The Legend of Zelda almost didn’t get a U.S. release because former Nintendo of America president Minoru Arakawa didn’t think Americans had enough patience to understand the game.

The Legend of Zelda was originally called The Hyrule Fantasy: Legend of Zelda in Japan, but it got shortened to The Legend of Zelda instead for the American release. It just rolls off the tongue easier than Hyrule Fantasy.

The Ocarina of Time was planned to be a first person game, but because the developers knew that gamers love seeing Link in action, they ultimately scrapped that idea. After all, Link has been such a big part of the game that removing him from the screen could be quite a downer.

There is a hidden second quest in the first Zelda game. You can play this secret quest when you enter your name as “ZELDA”.

The Legend of Zelda was supposed to be a dungeon building simulator. Nintendo wanted to make use of the re-writable aspect of their newest platform after NES, the Famicom Disk System, so the Zelda game was being developed as a creation tool that let you build your very own dungeons. Over time, the company decided to drop that aspect and build the dungeon themselves.

Naturally, this is not just any musical instrument, but arguably one of the most famous musical instruments in videogames, the ocarina. This particular ocarina is modeled after the one found in the videogame where most of us were first exposed to this 12,000-year-old wind musical instrument, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (1998) for the Nintendo 64. The 2011 release of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D for the Nintendo 3DS only helped to increase the instrument’s modern day popularity.

CLD Brands’ ocarina is made from kiln-fired ceramic, covered in a dark blue glaze, with a platinum glaze around the Triforce symbol (the three joined, equilateral triangles from The Legend of Zelda series). Handcrafted and tuned, the 12 hole ocarina you receive can easily pass for a high quality instrument.

The ocarina measures approximately 6.3in/16cm in length, 1.6in/4cm in height, and 3.9in/10cm in width. It’s a great beginner’s instrument since it’s relatively easy to hold and doesn’t require a huge time commitment to start playing simple songs.

Packaging-wise, you get the ocarina itself, along with a mini manual that includes sample songs, a registration post card, as well as what I can assume is an instrument strap (it’s more like a purple shoelace). Presumably this strap goes through the holes at the sides of the Triforce symbol.

The rear of the ocarina.

As for playing, all purchasers get sent a free PDF manual, Just Call Me Ocarina, which is an expansion of the mini manual. Just Call Me Ocarina includes information on history, manufacturing, and how to play, as well as sample songs to get started. These sample songs include well known arrangements like “Mary Had a Little Lamb” and “Scarborough Fair,” as well as a nice surprise or two, like “Zelda’s Lullaby.”

You can see a bit more about the instrument in my quick look video below:

An Ocarina Ceramic Hand Shaped Display Stand, as well as an Ocarina Waterproof Padded Carry Case are also available if you want to accessorize your ocarina.
Although not an official Nintendo product, and thus taking more than a few liberties by associating itself with the Zelda franchise, from the feel to the build quality to the sound, this ocarina nevertheless receives my highest recommendation. It’s easy to play and a fun diversion, Zelda association or not.
