It is reproduced here with no edits.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>PROS:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Fast-paced touchscreen action<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Does a great job mimicking retro gameplay, but with added depth<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Great sound design<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Plenty of features and options even if you don&#8217;t go premium<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Inexpensive to upgrade<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>CONS:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The visuals are merely serviceable<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The wealth of options can sometimes be a bit overwhelming<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/apps.apple.com\/us\/app\/prizefighters-2\/id1506703790\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Apple App Store<\/a>\u00a0(review platform) |\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.koalitygame.prizefighters2&amp;hl=en_US&amp;gl=US\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Google Play<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Released back in 2020, the original <em>Prizefighters<\/em> for iPhone and iPad was a <strong>great mobile update<\/strong> of Nintendo&#8217;s classic <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mobygames.com\/group\/6793\/punch-out-series\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Punch-Out!!<\/a> <\/em>arcade game from 1983. The arcade game featured a portrait-oriented screen, which <em>Prizefighters <\/em>successfully mimicked for their mobile game. Of course, as a home game, <em>Prizefighters <\/em>added some <strong>much-needed depth<\/strong> to the quarter-eating action formula of <em>Punch-Out!!<\/em>. Now, Koality Game LLC is back with <em>Prizefighters 2<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Interestingly, for this sequel, Koality Game LLC went with a landscape screen orientation more akin to the 1987 Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) home port of the arcade game, <em>Mike Tyson&#8217;s Punch Out!!<\/em>. Its visuals are also updated, with a look somewhere between that NES game and the Super Nintendo <em>Super Punch-Out!!<\/em> game from 1994, although still <strong>not as attractive<\/strong> as the latter or <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3r8zWJn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">arcade original<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course, what really matters is the gameplay. In that regard, <em>Prizefighters 2<\/em> does a great job of capturing the type of <strong>retro boxing experiences<\/strong> it&#8217;s taken inspiration from. Despite the inherent limitations of a touch screen for this type of game, using your choice of button-based controls or touch and swipe gestures, you have <strong>precise control<\/strong> over your boxer&#8217;s jabs, hooks, and uppercuts, as well as dodges and blocks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For <strong>button-based controls<\/strong>, there&#8217;s a virtual d-pad on the left for movement, four buttons on the right for punches, and two square buttons for blocks. The top button throws a right jab to your opponent&#8217;s head, while the right button throws a right jab to the body.&nbsp; The bottom button throws a left jab to your opponent&#8217;s body, while the left button throws a left jab to the head. By <strong>varying your approach<\/strong>, you can throw crosses, hooks, and upper cuts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The more punches you land, the more your <strong>momentum meter<\/strong> is filled. You can then hold any attack button to throw a <strong>power punch<\/strong>. It does a lot of damage, but is much slower than a regular punch, so you&#8217;ll need <strong>good timing<\/strong>. If you do land a power punch, there&#8217;s a solid chance your opponent will <strong>hit the canvas<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For defense, you can <strong>block <\/strong>left or right with the left or right square buttons, respectively. You can also <strong>dodge punches<\/strong> by tapping left, right, or down on the virtual d-pad. Combined with forwards and backwards ring movement, where you head towards or away from your opponent, you have access to a fairly large <strong>strategy set<\/strong> that you can match to your <strong>desired play style<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/armchairarcade.com\/perspectives\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Pirzefighters-2-Android.png?resize=1024%2C576&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Prizefighters 2 screenshot (Android)\" class=\"wp-image-184555\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/armchairarcade.com\/perspectives\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Pirzefighters-2-Android.png?resize=1024%2C576&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/armchairarcade.com\/perspectives\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Pirzefighters-2-Android.png?resize=300%2C169&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/armchairarcade.com\/perspectives\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Pirzefighters-2-Android.png?resize=150%2C84&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/armchairarcade.com\/perspectives\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Pirzefighters-2-Android.png?resize=768%2C432&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/armchairarcade.com\/perspectives\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Pirzefighters-2-Android.png?resize=1536%2C864&amp;ssl=1 1536w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/armchairarcade.com\/perspectives\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Pirzefighters-2-Android.png?w=1920&amp;ssl=1 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Prizefighters 2<\/em> &#8211; Stats on Android.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>In the <strong>free version<\/strong> of the game, you have access to the action, or <strong>Quick Fight<\/strong> mode, as well as the basic <strong>Career <\/strong>if you want to fight for the title. If you want to upgrade to the <strong>Premium Edition<\/strong> and add <strong>Boxing Gym Manager<\/strong> and <strong>Be the Promoter <\/strong>modes, there&#8217;s a modest fee of $2.99 USD. This one-time purchase also allows you to customize entire <strong>leagues <\/strong>and open up 10 <strong>career save slots<\/strong>, versus the standard two.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are plenty of options to customize features before each match and a nice <strong>stats summary<\/strong> at the end of every fight. Whether you want to micro-manage various aspects of the game or just jump in and punch away, <em>Prizefighters 2<\/em> allows for it. This same type of customization applies to the other game modes, with, for instance, a huge range of customization options to <strong>make your boxer yours<\/strong> and advance his skillset in Career mode.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>sound design<\/strong> is also worthy of mention. While the visuals merely get the job done, the sound effects really help sell the <strong>impact of punches<\/strong>. The <strong>pumping soundtrack <\/strong>also helps add to the intensity of fights. This is one game where wearing headphones is highly recommended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you&#8217;re looking for a retro-inspired action boxing game with depth, <em>Prizefighters 2<\/em> really delivers.
