In the case of imported firearms, the city, state, and name of the country (or a recognized abbreviation) where it was manufactured and where the firearm importer maintains their business are included.<\/p>\n<h1>Laser marking guns for easy tracking<\/h1>\n<p>The first step when tracing any operation is to identify the firearm uniquely by its markings and physical characteristics. Laser marking helps when documentary records from firearm manufacturing states do not show the change in ownership.<\/p>\n<p>The ultimate goal of tracing a firearm is identifying the point at which the gun was lost or entered the illicit market during transfer chain. The three pillars of successful tracing are laser marking, keeping records and cooperation. As a matter of fact, a UN body, The International Tracing Instrument commits all member states to specific firearm marking, where laser marking is recommended.<\/p>\n<p>The laser engraved marks are critical in tracing lost firearms. The numbers, letters, and symbols on firearms often identify the date of manufacture, model designations and other coded data that is critical in a successful gun-trace.<\/p>\n<p>Laser marking provides criminal evidence, allowing police to detain any suspect found in possession of property (including firearms) engraved with a different license number.
