We\u2019re firmly in the midst of the final series of Game of\nThrones, and with hype levels at an all-time high, many of us are\nwondering whether we can get our Westeros fix outside of the bounds of our\ntelevision screens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Well, as luck would have it, there are plenty of video game\nadaptations of George R. R. Martin\u2019s fantasy epic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, if you\u2019re looking for the perfect adaptation,\nit simply hasn\u2019t been made yet. The Song of Ice and Fire novels\nand, to a lesser extent, the television show are massively complex,\nrichly drawn and heavily dialogue-based\nfantasy that doesn’t necessarily translate perfectly to video\ngames. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nonetheless, plenty of developers have tried their hand at\nit, with mixed results. Some of these games are excellent in their own right,\nthough, and certainly most are at least worth a try if you haven’t had your GoT\nthirst quenched yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, without further ado, here are all the ways Game of\nThrones has been adapted into video games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Game\nof Thrones: Genesis \u2013 PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

You\u2019d have been forgiven for thinking that A Game of Thrones: Genesis<\/a> was based on\nthat very show, as it hit shelves in 2011, shortly after the HBO TV show began\nairing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Well, you\u2019d have been wrong. Based on the books and with no\nlikenesses to either locations or characters in the show, Genesis was a PC\nreal-time strategy (RTS) with a boatload of book-specific lore that played as\nconfusing to fans of the TV show. For lovers of the book, however, Genesis is\narguably the most accurate game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Game of\nThrones \u2013 PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

2012 brought a more faithful adaptation of the TV show \u2013\nCyanide\u2019s Game of Thrones, released across every major platform. The title is\nbased directly on the TV show and sees you take control of ancillary\ncharacters during the plot of the first series. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you want to play along with the story from the TV show,\nGame of Thrones is a solid enough way to pass the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Game of\nThrones Ascent \u2013 Facebook, Android, iOS<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If we say ‘mobile’ and ‘free-to-play’, what springs to\nmind? If you said ‘timers and microtransactions’, you\u2019d be correct! Game of\nThrones Ascent<\/a> was a mobile free-to-play game that had you pledging\nallegiance to a house before building up your fortune and influence,\nwhilst playing through little story moments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was quite fun, but as with most free-to-play titles, it\nwas designed primarily to extract microtransactions from you. The game shut\ndown in January of 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Game of\nThrones Online Slot \u2013 PC, Mobile<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

You know your show has made it when there are slot games\nbased on the franchise – and Game of Thrones is no different. It\u2019s one of the\nmany slots online at Aspers Casino<\/a>\nand features appropriate Game of Thrones customisations, characters and sounds\ncombined with classic online slots-style gameplay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

House sigils are found across the lines and, should you\nspin three scatters, you\u2019ll be granted the opportunity to serve one of the four\nGreat Houses of Westeros by choosing one of four free spin features. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Game of\nThrones: A Telltale Games Series \u2013 Android, iOS, PC, Mac OS, PS3, PS4,\nXbox 360, Xbox One<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

What better company to adapt Game of Thrones\u2019 epic narrative than Telltale \u2013 a developer that dealt\u00a0virtually exclusively in dialogue and decisions? That was the idea behind the partnership, and it\u2019s fair to say that despite the usual Telltale limitations and bugs, it was a decent enough effort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The narrative focused around two completely invented houses\n– House Whitehill and House Forrester – who are being goaded into war over\na land dispute by (who else?) Ramsey Bolton. As with all Telltale games though,\nyour decisions ultimately had little impact, leaving something of an emotional\nhollowness to proceedings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reigns:\nGame of Thrones \u2013 iOS, Android, Switch<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Reigns: Game of Thrones<\/a>,\ndeveloped by Nerial, is perhaps the best traditional video game adaptation of\nGame of Thrones. You\u2019re presented with one decision after another in a\nTinder-style swiping system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Your decisions affect the future cards you receive and have\nongoing effects. You must keep your empire in balance or, well, you know how\nthings go in Game of Thrones. It’s a fast, fun and interesting game – one which\ndoes justice to the license whilst giving you free rein to make your own\nchoices. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
