The 1990s really were the best decade when it comes to video\ngames. The games that were released that year transformed the entire industry,\nand it also led to huge releases that would go down in history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Millennials will never feel the pure joy experienced by Generation\nX the first time we fed our quarters into these tall titans at the video\narcade, or when we loaded them (slowly) into our home video gaming consoles.\nWhile the new generation has access to tons of tools (like gambling online with their smartphones<\/a>), maybe their malaise is due to simply\nhaving too much tech.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The following list celebrates the legendary video titles which\nstarted it all, hallowed be their names.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Donkey Kong<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Donkey Kong<\/a> is one of the best platformers to this\nday. It\u2019s held up to both nostalgic and contemporary standards, not to mention\nthat it\u2019s a full series too. Who knows how they came up with the idea for this,\nbut either way, it\u2019s certainly gone down a hit and that\u2019s one of the many\nreasons why it has ended up making this list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mortal Kombat<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 90s really was the golden age for fighting games. The first\nfew releases were loud and offensive. Some of them were even controversial too,\nbut that being said, it\u2019s still a huge game today. There have been tons of\nremakes released and some of them have gone on to become huge hits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another World<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This game is also known as being \u201cOut of this World\u201d in the US.\nIt\u2019s entitled \u201cOuter World\u201d in Japan. Either way, it doesn\u2019t really matter what\nyou call it, because Another World<\/a> is insanely weird and it is very\nimaginative too. It\u2019s a curiously beautiful game and it is able to give you a\ncomplete cinematic experience unlike any other. If you have never played this\ngame, then now is certainly the time for you to give it a go. You won\u2019t be\ndisappointed at all!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

F-Zero X<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This game series is fast and challenging, but it has certainly gained a lot of traction over the years. F-Zero-X is a complete sensory overload and it\u2019s also able to offer a fantastic gaming experience too. You\u2019ll feel like you\u2019re flying a thousand miles an hour and it\u2019s quite hard to get used to the controls too. The textures can be a little horrible at times so make sure that you keep that in mind if you decide to load it up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Street Fighter<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Street Fighter is actually played professionally all across the\nworld. Street Fighter is very popular, and it has a strong claim when it comes\nto the best fighting game ever released. It\u2019s also spurred the release of tons\nof other similar games too, which has helped it to solidify its legacy as being\none of the best games of the 90s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Metal Gear 2<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This game release showed the first inkling of insanity for\nKojima\u2019s future. It\u2019s a relatively straightforward stealth game but the plot at\nthe time was pretty radical when you look at it as a whole. It\u2019s still being\ntalked about to this day and it\u2019s also gained quite a lot of publicity over the\nyears for some of the more controversial choices in the game. Of course, if you\nhave never played this game before then you should certainly give it a go\nbecause it\u2019s a great experience with plenty of action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Star Wars Rogue Squadron<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As mentioned above, the 90s was the golden age for fighting games.\nIt was also a great era for flying simulators too. Sure, it\u2019s limited by some\ngenerational graphics but it\u2019s actually pretty expansive and fast at the same\ntime. It has a lot to offer and it\u2019s surprising to see how far it has come over\nthe years. If you\u2019re a fan of the Star Wars series, then this is one that\nyou\u2019re going to absolutely love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Diablo<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Diablo was released in the year 1996 and it\u2019s an excellent game\nIt\u2019s brought to you by Blizzard and the very first time you play it, you\u2019ll be\nthrown into an immersive experience unlike any other. The only real issue with\nthis game is that it has absolutely no replay value, which is a shame. Some of\nthe games that come after it do, and this is one of the many reasons why they\nstand out when compared to the rest of the series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Roller Coaster Tycoon<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

RCT quite frankly, deserves to be on this list. People would often\nclock over 200 hours playing this game., as it\u2019s just that engrossing. Sure, it\ndid offer some steep learning curves, but it\u2019s quirky and enjoyable. It also\npaved the way for other SIM type games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NBA Jam<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sure, this might not be the BEST sports game ever released, but it\nmade this list because it is actually one of the most influential. It\u2019s\ncertainly made an impact on the gaming industry and there are so many people\nwho look back on it with fond memories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Final Fantasy V<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Square had a run in the 90s with the Final Fantasy Series. This is\nthe stuff that legends are made out of, and it also went on to spur a lot of\nsuccess for the series. It looks great and the graphics are stunning when you\ntake into account the advancements that had been made at the time. Nothing can\nquite compare to it, and you\u2019ll also find that it\u2019s on a lot of people\u2019s top\nlists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mario Kart 64<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is quite possibly the best Mario Kart to be released, other\nthan Mario Kart 8. Sure, at times it can be frustrating, and this is especially\nthe case when you find yourself flying off the track and into oblivion. That\nbeing said, the game has a lot to offer and it is safe to say that it has come\na long way since the initial release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Super Smash Mario Brothers<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Super Smash Mario Brothers really is an insane concept for any\ngame. It\u2019s safe to say that only Nintendo would be able to pull this off. It\u2019s\na game that made careers, and it has gone down in history as being one of the\nmost fun games to ever be released. So many people talked about this release\nwhen it came out and they are still talking about it to this day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
