Outlining the best VR headsets available in 2017

August 28, 2017 Posted by Abigail Massimo Editorial No Comments

Virtual Reality, or VR, is gaining market popularity very quickly, but is still a new concept, so many players are unsure of what to look for when buying the required headset. We are here to help––this article outlines a list of the seven best headsets that will work for almost everyone on the hunt for their piece of virtual reality.

How Virtual Reality Headsets Work

At its most basic, virtual reality technology takes what you expect to see in the real world as you turn your head left or right, or move your body forwards or backwards, and replaces it with images that move and behave in the same manner.

Thanks to the fact that your system of perception does not have anything to tell it that you are in a virtual world, you believe that you are not, and feel as if you were present in the actual space that has been created. Think of virtually entering all that something like online casino New Zealand offers, and feeling as if you were in fact moving in that room––that is what this technology is able to deliver.

Mobile versus Tethered Virtual Reality Headsets

The two main types of virtual technology are mobile headsets and tethered headsets, and both are innovative and useful in their own way. Mobile headsets run on mobile devices, and tethered headsets require computers or other types of gaming devices in order for them to work. There are numerous products from both these groups for you to choose from.

The Seven Best Virtual Reality Headsets

1. HTC Vive

This is considered the best VR headset of them all, and its visuals offer you a field of view of 110 degrees. This is enough to cover your peripheral vision as well.

2. PlayStation VR

This is among the more immersive VR headsets, with a display measuring 5.7 inches, giving you a resolution of 1920 x RGB x 1080, which is able to run as many as 120 frames each second.

3. Oculus Rift

The Oculus Rift is the best VR headset in terms of power, and provides a field of view of 110 degrees along with a feet tracking area of 5 x 11.

4. Samsung GEAR VR w/Controller

The updated Samsung Gear now comes with a motion controller. This small remote easily pairs with your smartphone and allows for new levels of interaction.

5. Sainsonic VR-03: Google Cardboard VD

This headset is compatible with multiple Android and iOS smartphones.

6. Sarlar 3D VR

This VR headset is the best for players suffering from eye and neck strain.

7. Merge VR

The Merge VR is the best headset in terms of controller input and durability, and allows you to navigate and control directly from the headset itself. Left and right buttons are located on top of the device, and these allow you to perform numerous actions at the same time, e.g., you can steer left and right and run and jump with them.

Conclusion

VR tech is expected to keep making waves and potentially change gaming as we know it. And as the tech becomes more accessible, more competitively priced and easier to use, it’s sure to keep attracting legions of fans.
