Team Building Activities

June 30, 2019 Posted by Jonathan Adams Editorial 1 Comment

Working in a team environment, there’s more to performing in harmony than just getting along. And even though not all teams are created equal, even strong teams can benefit from team building exercises. They are a great way to improve interpersonal relationships, communication, morale, motivation, and productivity. They also help employees or new team members get to know each other better, and learn about one’s strengths and weaknesses. In this article, we take a look at five effective team building activities.

Virtual Reality

Corporate events and virtual reality team building activities are quickly gaining popularity, and it’s easy to see why. VR grants planners the capacity to transport teams to new challenges and other worldly locations that are simply impossible to replicate in the real world, with a whole set of fun and exciting exercises that ordinary team building activities simply do not offer. It is also very convenient in cases where the company is utilizing a remote workforce, since these games can be set up for access from anywhere with an internet connection and the proper gear.

Team sports

Playing sports is one of the most basic and popular team building activities out there. From airsoft to bowling, these games create stronger bonds among employees while improving their physical and mental health through exercise. One does not need to spend a lot of money on equipment or the best beginner airsoft gun either – most team building activity centers rent/provide you with everything you need for the team building activity you choose. When planning for your next activity, look for sports that fit the characters, preferences and fitness level of most of your employees. You can plan it so different departments can compete with each other, or your entire corporate team can go against another company’s team.

Treasure hunts

This type puts teams in a situation where they need to call upon all of their varied strengths to solve clues, take pictures, and negotiate for souvenirs whilst navigating their way around a complex route without incurring time penalties. Some of the most important benefits of this approach include inspiring determination, promoting teamwork, fostering competition, as well as igniting high energy among the team members.

Cook-offs

This culinary team-building activity is very popular because it allows everyone to show off skills other than what they excel at in the office, and it has some tasty results. Hosting a company cook-off is an exciting way to engage your employees, encourage teamwork, and promote leadership. And as a bonus, hopefully, it will end up with everyone with a full tummy and a smile on their faces.

Escape games

Escape Room Games are quickly gaining popularity as one of the top Alternative Team Building Activities for 2019. They’re exciting and require logic, patience, leadership skills and a lot of team collaboration. Experiences like Escape Room, Puzzle Break, and Adventure Rooms are fun and challenging ways to get your employees to truly work as a unit.

While all teams can benefit from most team building activities, choosing exercises that are right for your employees and their unique sets of challenges and requirements will help you maximize the benefits and make the best of your investment.

Most activities out there are designed by professionals to promote networking; socializing and getting to know each other better; teamwork and boosting team performance; healthy competition that can enhance productivity; celebration, fun, a sense of belonging to a group; fostering innovation and creativity; as well as communication and working better together. That said, the activity you should choose needs to be exciting and engaging to the majority of your employees, so they look forward to it instead of sighing and just doing it because the boss said so.
