The Best Practices To Market Your New Mobile Game App

July 9, 2020 Posted by Abigail Massimo Editorial No Comments

Once the hard work of developing a game is complete, the real drudgery begins. Now it’s time to get the game out to the masses. You can’t just upload it to the app stores and expect it to take off.

You need a marketing campaign. That doesn’t mean you need to hire a PR firm to get the word out and spend a ton of money. You can do it yourself or with a small team and organically grow the hype for your game to make it successful.

There is a lot of competition out there so you need to make sure you are finding the audience for your game and not the other way around. Whether you’ve created an online casino game, or time waster type addictive game, the concepts are the same.

Read on to learn how to market your game with these simple tips.

Make a playable ad

This is the tip that is going to cost the most money so hopefully you do have somewhat of a budget. If you understand how pay per click ads work then you can definitely do this without spending a fortune however.

When you make a playable ad, you are paying to place your ad on other games in such a way that people can actually play it without having to download it. People are more likely to download and buy a game that they’ve had the chance to play before committing.

You’ll only pay when somebody clicks so make sure to place your ads in the right games that are being played by the people that would most like your game.

There's a lot of competition out there, so you need to know what to do to stand out from the crowd.

Start a subreddit

The best way to get organic traffic to your game listing on the app stores is to create something of a buzz. And the best place to do that is with Reddit. It is one of the biggest websites on the internet and has a mostly young audience.

There is a gaming culture that is very prevalent on Reddit so this is where you likely will get the most bang for your buck. However, be warned that Reddit does not like self promotion so you have to be clever when trying to build some traffic.

The best way to do this is to create a subreddit that is dedicated to your game or at least the genre your game is in. Then try to get people to subscribe to your sub and go from there. Add value to the discussions and only promote your game occasionally.

Create a loop

Your marketing campaign should involve a lot of different channels that all cycle around to bring the traffic to your offer. Your offer in this case is your game so you have to have all of your efforts loop around with each other.

What that means is that you need to create a strong social media presence. Then use any of the traffic from that social media to send people to your landing page on your website. Then your landing page will have people leave you their email. Then your email campaign will send people to the listing on the app store. This will make sure that all of your traffic generated all lead to creating a legion of fans.
