One of the favorite memories from my youth was creating pixel art with Doodle! on my Commodore 64 and Deluxe Paint III on my Commodore Amiga 500. Of course, the Deluxe Paint series, which was first released in late 1985 and had its final release a decade later, appeared on more than just the Amiga, and included Atari ST, Apple IIGS, and, most famously (after the Amiga), MS-DOS, with Deluxe Paint II Enhanced 2.0, which was used quite a bit for pixel art (sprites in particular) in PC games. Now, Steffest has created a feature-rich and free open source web-based image editor, DPAINT.JS, modeled after the best of the Deluxe Paint series. You can check the web app out at this link.
