Released in November 2025, the Maono PD200W, is an improved wireless update to the popular PD200X. The “W” designation means it adds a 2.4GHz wireless receiver to the standard USB and XLR connectivity, making it an ideal 3-in-1 microphone.

This is all about versatility, as being wireless makes it much easier to move than other microphones like the PD200X. I have a wired Logitech Yeti Blue on my desk that’s attached to a boom arm, and you can bet that there’s no way I can move that from where it is.

Anyway, let’s get to the PD200W. In the box is the microphone, desktop stand, a pigtail USB-C to USB-C cable with USB-A adapter, regular USB-C to USB-C cable with a USB-A adapter, USB-C 2.4Ghz wireless receiver, some rubber gaskets, and paperwork.

I’ll mention a few downsides first before I get to all of the positives.

The shock mount is plastic and feels a bit cheap, although I will say my Yeti Blue doesn’t even have one. There’s some wireless compression, so if you want the absolute best sound, you’ll still want to use the USB or XLR modes. The PD200W is a bit sensitive to bumps, so make sure not to tap the microphone or desktop. Finally, the outer ring of the shock mount was scuffed out of the box for some reason.

Now, the positives. The triple connectivity is a game-changer. It works over XLR, USB-C, and 2.4GHz wireless with the included dongle. The latter two work seamlessly with PC or mobile. In fact, I’m recording this now with the dongle attached to my Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max, which is also recording the video. I made zero adjustments, so this is how it sounds out of the box, plug and play.

As I’m sure you can tell, even without any fiddling, it does a good job of making your voice sound better and more professional, which is no mean feat for me. It also does a decent job rejecting background noise, although you’ll still want to be careful in noisier environments, which I’m definitely in right now. I’m sure you can hear the Korean drama from the other room.

As another plus, you can connect two PD200W microphones to a single receiver for in-person interviews or co-hosted podcasts and videos.

The Maono Link software for Windows and Macintosh computers also works well for adjustments. Finally, there’s zero-latency monitoring from the built-in headphone jack, so you can hear yourself in real-time. This is especially good for gaming or live streaming.

You can find the PD200W on the company website, but you’ll want to go to Amazon. Right now, it’s 35% off for a limited time, so just $84.99 for the desktop version I have. If you want the boom arm version, that’s on sale for $104.96. Even without the discount, this is a genuine value for a surprisingly professional setup.

After loving the MAXGROOM Body Shaver Set (LK-881), I was excited to try the MAXGROOM Hair Clippers Set (WF-3908) (Product Link). I cut my own head hair, so this is the perfect package. It has a 9000RPM magnetic motor that’s able to easily handle my somewhat coarse black and gray hair.

This package is truly something special. In the box you get the main barber clipper razer, a secondary zero gap trimmer razer, eight sizes of razer guards – four of which are trimmer guards – four different combs, a semi-hard travel case, a professional hair cape, cleaning brush, USB-C to USB-A charging cable – although any USB-C charging will work fine – and a comprehensive user guide.

As you can see from the before and after photos, it did a bang-up job on the sides and back of my head. It’s a smooth, satisfying cut. I also love the 100-minute runtime.

The usual price is under $80 for this set, but it’s often on sale for much less. Either way, it’s a heck of a deal and is now my go-to head hair cutting system. Between this and the Hair Clippers Set, it’s clear that MAXGROOM knows their stuff.

This is a quick unboxing and review of the OIYN Table Lamp, otherwise known as the RGBICWW Smart Table Lamp.

It has a color temperature between 2700 and 6500 Kelvin.

You can use the Giant Home app on iOS or Android to control a whole range of lighting options or effects, including responsiveness to music. Or, use the simple touch-based controls on the top of the lamp. The touch-based controls include Color Mode, Brightness Down, Brightness Up, Scene Mode, and On-Off.

The lamp measures just over 7 inches tall, so it’s pretty compact. It’s powered with the included AC adapter. It’s a fun desk accessory that’s easy to use and provides some really great light, colored or otherwise.

There are lots of options for wireless lavalier microphones, but few are as inexpensive and straightforward as the AMPOMOV Wireless Microphone set.

In the box, you get a charging case that displays charge level remaining, a USB-C transmitter, two lapel microphones, a short USB-C to USB-A charging cable, a USB-C to USB-A adapter, a USB-C female to USB-C male adapter, and a user manual.

There’s little you have to do to get this setup to work. Using my Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max as the test device, I plugged the USB-C transmitter in and powered on one of the lapel microphones, whose light turned green once connected. That was it, it just worked.

Recording quality is very good overall. As you can tell from me reading this script, voice quality is clear. While it doesn’t have superior noise isolation and will pick up movement on your shirt or wherever else you clipped it with its 360-degree recording field, as long as you’re thoughtful about the microphone’s placement, it gets the job done.

You can get more sophisticated solutions with better voice isolation, but considering this has a roughly 65-foot range and is as plug-and-play simple as it gets, this is a great device to have handy when you need to be a distance from your video recording device. At less than $20, it’s a steal.

You don’t get The Three-Body Problem branding and related special inclusions, but you do get one heck of a multi-platform wireless controller for around $100 with the PB Tails Metal Crush Chromeposite Mirror TMR.

I previously reviewed the PB Tail Metal Crush Defender TMR controller for IGN, and came away impressed. This is no different.

As you can see in my video, if you’re in China, you get the shiny controller, pin, cleaning cloth, and – removable from its acrylic display case – a heavy chrome droplet that represents the small, manoeuvrable unmanned spaceships from The Three-Body Problem. While the non-Chinese version doesn’t feature any of that except for the controller and cleaning cloth, I’d say the arguably best-in-class TMR sensor upgrade more than makes up for it.

As an owner of the original Freewrite and Freewrite Traveler, I have a lot of experience with the Astrohaus platform dating back to 2017. Conceptually, it’s a modern interpretation of a digital typewriter that saves your work both locally and to various cloud services (including email) and is meant as a simplified, distraction-free writing device. You’re meant to type and not worry about editing, which you can do later on a more traditional computing device.

While all of these devices are relatively expensive, I feel that most writers are used to occasional indulgences. Whether it’s finding the perfect keyboard, software, pen, paper, chair, desk, etc., there is definitely something to the concept of your environment and tools making it “easier” to write, even if it’s purely psychological. I know I’ve indulged myself time and again with such things, and really, if it produces results, why not? In other words, if you’re a writer, get out there and write, then write some more any way that you’re able to!
