Officially licensed by Atari, New Wave is offering two fully playable, 1/6-scale versions of the classic game Missile Command. The Standard Edition nails the look of the iconic arcade game, while the special Field-Test Edition is a little-seen (and far flashier) version of the cabinet that Atari designed before mass-producing the game.

Might buy this. But what versions are Frogger and Space Invaders based on?

Space Invaders and Frogger are the usual custom ports from AtGames. They are not platform-specific. All of the non-Blast! systems have SD card slots.

With it including an SD card slot, will you be able to load other Atari 2600 Games on the system and play them like you can do on the Atari Flashback portable?

Yes, it will have an SD card slot for firmware updates. If a custom firmware is made available, then it will be able to load ROMs as well, but not immediately out of the box.

They are still supposed to be coming out. They’ll be specific to the 9 series and nothing else.

If you upgrade the firmware and have an SD card, you can add additional games.

I really wish that atari would put Moon Patrol one of these consoles. I really want to play that game but dont want to buy an atari 2600 just to play that one game. Its too bad. Do you are there any atari flashback consoles that feature Moon Patrol? I love that game. I havent played it since the late 80’s and would love to go back to it.

It’s not an Atari game, so it would need a third party license. The original arcade Moon Patrol is available on the Switch, among other places.

Moon Patrol is absolutely an Atari game. Go on ebay and type in “Moon Patrol Atari 2600”. A huge listing will come up. I’ve played the game many times and I’ve held the catridge in my hands. So, I know it exists. I’m amazed you didn’t know that, but perhaps you are not familiar with old systems like Atari.

I don’t use any newew systems like Switch honestly. I have a NES, N64, Sega Genesis, & Gameboy emulators on my computers that I use. The atari emulators won’t work on my computer for some reason or I’d just play Moon Patrol for Atari on my computer. Won’t work though 🙁

You’re confusing one of the systems the game appeared on with who owns the rights. Atari does not own the rights to Moon Patrol.

Oh ok. Well, I didn’t say anything about whoever owns the rights. I said its an atari 2600 game which it is. Moon Patrol is a game for the atari 2600. Like I said its right there on ebay lol. I’ve owned the game. I’ve held it in my hand. I can see it right now on ebay. Moon Patrol is a game for the atari 2600. I’m not confused. You are confused. So, good luck in your life. lol I’m done talking now and thanks.

Of course I know there’s an Atari 2600 version of Moon Patrol. Not that it matters, but I’ve written many mainstream articles and books on classic games, worked on the actual Atari Flashback products (and continue to do so), and have been involved with video games in general for decades.

To clarify for you, I was explaining why it didn’t appear on an Atari Flashback, which was your question. It would need to be licensed from the actual rights holders, which is not Atari. I also told you where you can play a version today (the only licensed version available today, which is on the Switch). Figuring out making emulators work is not that difficult, but if you’re having trouble, you can play the game in your web browser:

      Arcade version – https://archive.org/details/arcade_mpatrol

      Atari 2600 version – https://onlineconsolegames.com/play-game/moon-patrol/play/

      Good luck.
