Broken Gadget: Should You Have It Replaced Or Fixed?

June 3, 2019 Posted by Abigail Massimo Editorial No Comments

There is no device that lasts forever in this world. Whether you have an iPhone or Samsung device, you may find yourself wanting to replace or repair them at one point. It makes sense to replace your gadget when it breaks, gets stolen or is lost. However, deciding whether to replace an old device can be a huge dilemma. If you find yourself falling into the temptation of repairing your old device early, you will end up with a device that is marginally better than the old one but with huge maintenance cost. Likewise, fixing a dying cell phone with a cracked screen, or busted motherboard, can sometimes be as pricey as buying a new cell phone. So, the million dollar question is should you repair an old device or should you have it replaced?

Luckily, there is a popular rule of thumb which can help you know whether you should repair a gadget or just buy a new one. The first thing you should do is find the cost of repairing the broken device. In case the repair cost is more than 50 percent the cost of buying a new device, then you are better off buying a new one. Sometimes repairing your gadget can be the best option, especially if it can be done quickly as you wait. There are many repair shops in Minneapolis that can fix your phone if it is water damaged or has a cracked screen. However, not all of them are the same. If you are you looking for an experienced local repair company then search for Cell Phone Repair Minneapolis. The company has six retail locations in Minneapolis, Minnesota and can repair and service cell phones of varying manufacturers such as Apple, Samsung, Motorola, and LG. The following are different types of phone repair:

Cracked screen

A cracked screen can reduce the appeal or performance of your phone. If you are tired of seeing a cracked screen on your cell phone, then you should consider getting it fixed. Replacing your cracked screen with a new one can make your phone look new again. Cracked screen replacement service can be performed on different phone models such as Apple, Samsung, Motorola, and LG.

Water damage

When you expose your phone to water, such as a shower or swimming pool, they can get damaged. That is, unless your phone is waterproof. If your phone is water damaged, you don’t have to throw it away. Instead, take it to a phone repair company to get it thoroughly cleaned and the technicians will get it repaired.

Battery replacement

Is your phone’s battery draining faster than it once used to? Then it is time to have the battery replaced. Whether you have a Motorola, Samsung or LG, you can have its battery replaced.

Charging issues

You may have charging issues with your cell phone. Perhaps it is not charging as fast as it used to or it is not charging at all. You can have the charging port replaced so that it is charging well again.

Camera issues

In case you see spots or cracks on your pictures, your phone’s camera may be defective. To achieve great looking photos, have the camera replaced.

Speaker problems

Do you have problems hearing people calling you on your phone? When you take your phone to a technician, you can have both the main speakerphone and ear speaker replaced.

Here are ways you can tell if you should fix or repair a broken gadget.

See if buying a new gadget is an upgrade

It is not every time that you buy a new gadget it is considered an upgrade. At first, it might seem like you are buying a better gadget than you have since it is new but if the device you are buying doesn’t suit you as much as what you have already, then it cannot be considered as an upgrade. For example, you may prefer a certain phone because it has better specs, but if the design is bulkier than what you have, then you may not be happy with the upgrade.

Consider time value

The time you come with a value which means it needs to be well spent, especially when making the decision to either replace or repair a gadget. Your decision should be based on the following: repair time and how long you will stay without your device. Unless you have another phone, brace yourself because you will stay without your phone for a couple of weeks or months. Rather than waiting this long to get your device from a repair shop, you can consider if a replacement is worth it. The next thing to consider is the set-up time and the length of time it will take for you to use your phone again. In case your phone repair can be done quickly, then it doesn’t make sense to replace it.

Whether you choose to repair or replace your device it depends on you. Sometimes you may prefer to repair your old and reliable device so that it can serve you for a long period of time than just buying a new gadget for the same amount of money. Other times it makes sense to get a new gadget than have the old one repaired. Make sure you look at your options before deciding to either repair or replace your gadget.
