While I’ve messed around with RC vehicles in one form or another since I was a boy in the 1970s, I never really got into it seriously. It was either too early for non-professional technology or I never wanted to invest the money into something decent. Much to my delight, this TERROK 1:18 Scale Off-Road RC Car (“Fierce Monster” on the box) gives me a taste of some true enthusiast features at a pretty great price point.
In the box is the RC car, which has an unattached battery inside. There’s also the 2.4GHz remote controller, an additional battery, USB charging cable, a screwdriver, bag of small parts, and a manual.
Again, not being well-versed in the RC car world, I was surprised at how thin the upper shell of the car was. What I have come to find out is that these body shells, along with other parts like the bumpers and wings, are meant to be changed out with a body style of your choosing in the same class. The real star of the show with these types of more advanced RC cars is the base with all of the electronics. And boy is it a stand-out.
After fully charging one of the car’s batteries – which didn’t take all that long since both batteries were pretty close to fully charged – and putting the four required AA batteries (not included) in the remote control, I was off to the races. Literally. This is one fast car, topping out at around 23 miles of non-scale speed!
Fortunately, the remote control has both long-range and a good analog feel to it, so I was quickly able to adjust and go just about as slow as I wanted before fully opening up the throttle again. The foam-covered steering “wheel” on the remote worked well for precise turns.
Again, and one last time for the people in the back, I’m no expert in RC vehicles. However, I know a good, fun product when I get to use it and this is it. The fact that you can interchange and upgrade parts is a plus and something worth exploring if and when I’m ready. As it stands, pretty much straight out of the box, this RC car is ready for some fast-paced offroad action. If you want a more sophisticated RC car, it’s hard to go wrong with TEEROK’s offering.
